K1 Fees and when they are due

Hi all,

ive tried to search for a topic like this but not found anything the same.

Im in the uk, my fiance is an american citizen, we havent applied for the k1 visa yet, as we are trying to gather the proof we are together.

My question is this, to start applying for the k1 visa, is it the initial $535 fee to USCIS PLUS  the $265 k1 application?....when do we pay for medical and other fees and is there a time limit?

Thanks

The $265 is paid to a different department and in any case won’t be due until after the i129-f is approved.  The method and timing of payment depends on the consular office where the interview is held.

Pay for the Petition Fee when you file the I-129F

Pay the Visa fee after filling our the DS-160 and that is done in country

Pay the medical at the clinic again in country.

Then pay the filing fee for the AOS after you get married.

K1 is an odd choice if money is an issue and yes.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

not as much an issue, just like knowing im not going to fall short anytime soon. We was going to go for the spousal visa but didnt realise it took longer.

thanks about the interview :)

Focusing on the length of time of one vs the other can be a bit short-sighted.

If you are struggling to come up with the $535 for the petition, how will it be when the alien spouse cannot work for 6 months after arriving?  And how will you afford the $1225 AOS fee?

we havent processed the visa due to we havent printed and gathered enough proof, i was told to have more than enough needed.  With the money side, i like to cater for more than what we need, im just stressing as the paperwork is a head sore for me and when it comes to the fees, honestly im so confused.

There are some corner cases where it's not, but it's always initially sent to the embassy or consulate that handles immigrant and immigrant-intent visas for where the non-US citizen beneficiary legally resides.

Some countries don't have an embassy or consulate with an immigrant visa unit (or the embassy/consulate is closed for one reason or another), so immigrant and immigrant-intent visas are handled at an embassy or consulate in another country (Norway goes to Stockholm, for example).

And some beneficiaries don't live in their country of citizenship.

However, if the beneficiary is currently legally in the US, then you probably want to go through an adjustment of status process, not a fiancee visa process.
