Hello all,

This is my first time posting here.

I've been a permanent resident for roughly 6 years now. Im planning a business trip back to my home country (Hungary) within the next couple months.

Since this is my first time making an international trip ever since i immigrated to the USA, Im kind of concerned/worried if there might be any issues with coming back.

I do not have a criminal background, and my card is currently valid (unexpired).

Can someone tell me what normally happens at the border when permanent residents come back? I want to believe im just being paranoid, but i dont want to risk not being able to come back for whatever reason.

Thank you.

As long as you come back within 6 months, expect nothing out of the ordinary, standard questions for travelers, where did you go, where do you live, any items to declare, Purpose of your trip etc. You are extremely unlikely to be refused entry if your trip is brief (under 180 days) unless you committed crimes.

If you come back within 12 months, expect some questions regarding why you left for so long, more deep questions about the trip.

if you leave for longer than 12 months, you must obtain an Advanced Parole document.

questions and secondary inspection are up to the CBP Officer. You are eligible for Naturalization, as a US citizen you can never be denied entry. Many countries permit dual citizenship, including Hungary.

You can have tri-citizenship too.

It is true, LPRs can be denied entry to the US, however it must be a very good reason and you still have rights to appeal to an immigration judge.

As a US citizen, you can leave for as long as you please and return whenever you please, without the chance of denied entry.

US  citizens are guaranteed entry.

If im i dont have any type of criminal background, and only plan to stay iverseas for a few days, there isnt a reason to be determined inadmissable, right? They cant just deny your intent to enter the country?

Since only USCs are guaranteed admission, they can deny entry to LPRs and visa holders.  However, for LPRs, it would not just be random, but because of new info that has come to light, such as a crime or violation against the terms of the green card.

There is obviously a reason why you are concerned, instead of going around the houses it would help if you could explain why that is.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Ive never left the country ever since i moved here and settled down. I dont want to lose all that just because im going overseas to attend a conference.

Why is there a concern, millions travel, why do you have an issue?

I guess i should ask my doctor to bump up my lexapro dosage. I dont have an issue and i hope i wont have any when i try coming back. Im just anxious

if they wont allow me back. I dont see why they wouldnt, because i read online the only reason they would deny entry if you committed a crime or abandoned your LPR status, right?

If that is it then a 5 day trip? does sound more a medical issue.
