What I read us the opposite. Root crops like potatoes, carrots absorb and retain the chemicals where fruits and leaves are topical and rinse off easily.  But I don't have the science either way.

I am seeing a smaller gap in-between organic and non-organic prices.

I think part of it is about the amount of the chemical they have to use. Root crops tend not to need as much.

There is zero benefit to organic. It also drives up cost, drives down production and less yield per acre. It makes poor people starve

I suggest season 7 episode 6 of Penn and Tellers show, the name of which is not family friendly

So basically, you are basing your opinion on what a couple of magicians said?

I actually have no opinion on gemstones at all. I have the feeling my wife would want a "real" one even if she couldn't tell the difference between them, but that's just her. I could be wrong. I would ask her, but then she'll think that she's getting one, and that will come back to bite me when she gets a bowling ball for Christmas.

my thoughts on diamonds is why buy one, as she won't last forever.

I was kind of thinking the same thing but didn't want to be impolite!

My understanding is that for some things, especially some types of produce (soft fruits, for example) it's worth it and for others (bananas) it's not necessarily. I made grilled tofu (grilled chicken for Al) last night which I served with steamed broccoli and pearled couscous. Everything was organic, but I wondered to myself why the couscous was! It was the only type available at the store which to be fair is kind of a crunchy granola place.

It's good to know when it's worth buying organic and when it doesn't make much difference. I look at where they use the most pesticides (ie. apples, peaches, strawberries, grapes). Those are good trade offs to buy organic. Unless you like eating poison. There are diminishing returns on other products.

Trouble is, unless you raised it yourself, you'll never know what was put on them.  I find it hard to believe that one grower uses no pesticides while others do.  How?  Do they just pray the bugs away?

I garden on a small scale, and my natural methods for eliminating pests from my crops are in no way feasible on a large scale.

Sort of along these lines, how do you feel about lab-grown gemstones? I'm engagement ring shopping at the moment and I'm considering going in that direction. It's not a cost-saving thing, but really that way I can ensure that the gems are conflict-free from a lab with high labor standards (I would only consider a US/UK/EU lab). Neither he nor I really have any objection to the concept of lab-grown stones, but I guess there's some part of me that (even though I know I shouldn't) worries about what other people (*cough* my dad *cough*) will think. My dad already has some issues with him relating to money, and I don't need to throw more wood on that particular fire.

Moissanite, hands down.  Beautiful, nearly flawless and colorless, and 1/10 the price.  What’s not to love?

I have been looking at moissanite, coincidentally, along with morganites and emeralds. (I love pinks and greens.) I know how much I want him to spend -- I mean, in terms of maximum, not minimum! I don't want a gigantic ring like last time (3 carats is WAY too big -- 2 is better, I think). And of course, it's not the ring that imparts superhero powers. That would be my engagement bracelet. 😂

Who goes to McDonalds to get a plant burger?  Additionally, I have heard that the sodium levels of these "Beyond" meat burgers is higher than beef burgers.

What's wrong with lab grown? A gem is a gem, who cares? You know how much suffering is brought about by the diamond industry right? Diamonds don't make you better and not having a 'real' one doesn't mean the person loves you any less. There is little biological difference, and no one would be able to tell. As for cost saving, you can find lots of wedding rings that don't cost a ton. My husband's late grandmother bought our rings... on sale. It is completely unique as in they don't even make it anymore and is unusual in it's design and was just the sort I always wanted. Stop worrying about what other people will think and get what you enjoy.

Well said
