Hey everyone, im getting closer to finishing the I-129F Peition and it got me thinking of the passport photos.

So the Petition requires 2x Passport Photos each for petitioner and beneficiary.

As the case progresses, I will need more passport photos for the medical (i see mixed answers on how many but between 4 & 6), and then for the interview it requires another 2x. (phew!)

my question is, they are done in lots of 4 (most of the time) here in australia. so Do you think I can get bulk done at once and just use them as I need them? or best to get new ones s the case progresses because i know passport photos do have an "expiry" when being used for visas.

I entered the DV Lottery back in October 2018 so i still have the original 4 from there, do you think I can send them off with the petition? I dont look drastically different. Just more wrinkles and longer hair haha.

I hope that made sense. To sum up, can I use passport photos from like 10 months ago, and could I "buy in bulk"?

thank you!

You can use the old ones, as they're not THAT old.

You'll need more photographs for the embassy stage and when you move to the US, for AOS. And another one for your fiancé to carry in his wallet. :P

I’m not sure on the timeline for the visa and medical photos offhand, but the instructions for the I-129F state the photos should be taken within 30 days of filing the petition.

I did see that too. I just remember seeing someone else mention that if they havent changed much in appearance (drastic hair colour change etc.) it could stil be ok...

It could be fine and I’m sure many have done that without issue. At the same time, my advice would be to not deviate from the instructions.

The current instructions for the I-129F states:

"You must submit one color passport-style photograph of yourself and one color passport-style photograph of the

beneficiary taken within 30 days of filing this petition. The photos must have a white to off-white background, be

printed on thin paper with a glossy finish, and be unmounted and unretouched.

The color passport-style photos must be 2 by 2 inches. The photos must be in color with full face, frontal view on a

white to off-white background. Head height should measure 1 to 1 3/8 inches from top of hair to bottom of chin, and

eye height is between 1 1/8 to 1 3/8 inches from bottom of photo. Your head must be bare unless you are wearing

headwear as required by a religious denomination of which you are a member. Using a pencil or felt pen, lightly print

your name and A-Number (if any) on the back of the photo."

I believe you will need more in the future for other stages of your journey but for now, one for you and one for you fiancé/fiancée will suffice.

If you look awful on your passport photo, he'll think you're a goddess when he sees you in person. 😉

Get a bunch of up to date ones.  That’s what we did.  Still have some.  Used the same pics for the whole process.

Note:  We don’t carry pics in our wallets anymore.  They’re on our phones.  Just sayin’

You´ll need to provide pictures for your employment authorisation card (combo card). The pictures for your green cards (for AOS and removal of condition two years later) are taken by an immigration worker in the bio appointment. You don't have to worry about those.

Gen X.  I dislike snow.

I went all in and married on the first visit, two days after I landed.  Beyond hopeless right there.... 😂

Ok. Thank you everyone. From what i can tell (and by majority rules). I should get new photos taken to stick with USCIS requirements.
giving my fiance a copy of my passport photo will make me look better in person. Photos in wallets are too cool to ever die. and love at first sight can stand the lengths of time.

thank you everyone for your quick responses :D

Not that USCIS can check WHEN exactly you have that photo taken ;) So as long as you didn't go through a makeover, I think you'd be fine.

"Life is a journey." At this moment, it's taking me to the USA to the woman I love.
