Sorry to jump in with the current conversation going, but I’m just wanting to have a rant about packing my things. I’ve got my K1 and my flight to the US is on Thursday and I’m well and truly sick of suitcases.

 

Packing...unpacking...rearranging... I’m having to buy and pay for a third case because my things don’t fit in the two included with my fare, and a freight company wanted to charge me $700 to ship two cardboard boxes, so forget it. Air New Zealand only allow a 7kg carry-on (???) and my carry-on case itself weighs 2kg, so the rest of the weight (what little it is) is nothing but immigration-relevant paperwork and whatnot.

 

I think my fiancé is getting sick of my complaining, though he hasn’t said anything outright, bless him lol. I’m excited about the move, of course, but the logistics of transporting THINGS are driving me nuts.

Sunday report, see man:

 

Voluntarily left casa early to get hairs cut (with use of coupon), so long Ecu haircut man.

Just getting out of shower when hourlong power outage* struck, good grief man.

Internet out for most of day, frustrate Mrs. T-B. she man.

     *written notice received that utility co. plans comprehensive maintenance this week

 

Did Many (2+2) laundry loads, heavy weekend man.

Up-cleaned piles of clothes/purchases on piece of furtniture, about time man.

Purged clothing from bedroom bookcase, no books therein man.

Tried to nap but couldn't, Mrs. T-B. making grooming racket in contiguous bathroom she man.

 

Donation pile* consumes two large bags, aggressively purge/donate we man.

     *including our resale-found Calvin Klein jeans, which didn't make the cut** of the survivors

   **other brands that we had felt/fit better, pun intended man

 

Too hot in casa most of day, now freezing, A/C working man.

 

Must arise at o'dark-Many to take cat to vet, glucose curve man.

I remember those days, long ago as they were. I moved to his country and then we moved back. It was rough.

So, this would be more geared towards immediately after discharge, to make sure everything was ready at home and working smoothly. There is also some talk of a bit of greater scope coming with bringing telemedicine in, etc.

 

I think we've all seen how the elderly get on at home and the difficulty they have in getting to the doctor, so it really would be a good thing. We also have a greater scope that home health nurses, generally, because our standing orders are more comprehensive, so we can perform interventions immediately. 

 

Here is an interesting example of this:

brought patient into local ER, which is only staffed by nurses

nurses unable to intubate without direct order for that specific patient by a doctor

NP shows up, also not allowed to intubate, despite being a care provider

Paramedic shows up from different hospital, allowed to intubate and push drugs

😑

 

It is a sort of failure of the medical system. BSN nurses should probably have more scope.

I had two immigration packets in our carry on (one for me, one for my son). My neck was so sore from carrying those papers by the time we got across London to the airport. I wish they'd make it simpler. 

I've heard other people say you can pack more in if you pay for a box rather than an extra suitcase on the plane. I saw a couple at the airport once with 4 boxes they were taking on the plane. The cost was about 50 GBP a box. I don't know what the cost would be from New Zealand. It could be worth checking.

Thank you, I probably should have looked into that more but I’ve reached a point where I’ve gotten so fed up and will just pay the $230 for an extra bag. I’m really weak and can’t see myself juggling so many boxes without humiliation entailing. Also lamenting the fact that I won’t be able to take my extensive Stephen King collection with me... 🥺 Picking out a few and the rest will stay behind, I guess.

Just do what my wife's friends and family do. Borrow a suitcase, for a one way trip...
