Those are very broad questions.  Many K-1 visas are denied.......the actions afterwards depend on the reason for denial.  Normally, a denied couple spends much more time together and reapplies for a K-1........or they marry and file for a CR-1.........but that is is general.........

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Yup. Futhermore, OP said "petition." On one end of the spectrum, petition can be denied for simply not including intent to marry statement. On the other end, petition can be denied for petitioner not disclosing AWA-type crimes, etc.

OK.   Then my answer is......they fix the problem with the petition, if possible (depending on the reason), and resubmit.😁

So if you resubmit do you have to pay the $535 again?

Unless the reason for denial was improper payment or the wrong version of the form so they didn't take your money to begin with, yes.

Why are most K-1 visa denied?

I would say K-1 visas are most often denied because the Consulate Officer doubts the authenticity of the relationship or he/she suspects fraud.

You have seen a K-1 sent back to USCIS for that?
