Insurance is the worst pain in my backside on the business end of practice.  It's getting worse.  PPOs with poor fee schedules, DHMOs and patients that have no idea about their insurance.  Insurance companies that no longer provide a card to show us what they have.  A toll free number to call for help with a patients ins, but no way to actually talk to a human....

How long do you give it before it goes bang, well to the point that most people are aware.

Amen. I think my primary care physician spends more time talking to my insurance than me.

 

Now after getting my surgery and getting pre cert, payong out of pocket. I am getting all these bill from people I dont even know who they are.

Well, the way we practice has certainly been changing because of this.  Fewer and fewer of us sole practitioners and more groups and especially a lot of corporate clinics opening with an emphasis on SELL, SELL, SELL, and push them in and out the door quickly.

I have said it before, single payer is coming within 10 years, or less.  A lot of overbilling and greed in the system, and just yesterday heard about Rx drug price fixing (the real collusion).

 

I just don't know how you make quality healthcare much cheaper.  You can bet with  single payer you will see an explosion of concierge doctors.

My MD doesn't take insurance, doesn't process insurance claims either. Her business model is based on payment due at time of service. She prices her services reasonably and if you scheduled a 30 min. appointment you get the full time. This works for us since we don't have insurance. We also have access to the Univ. health center which is very cost effective.
