Convicted of a crime

Hi everyone 

 

I am applying for a fiancé visa and in the requirements it says that if I was ever convicted of a crime I need to submit the paperwork. What paperwork are they looking for?

 

I don’t know If they want the actual police report which was almost nine years against now or the court hearings which lasted three years after that or the actual conviction which has been like six years now

 

I need your help !

They want to see everything--police reports, court hearings, evidence of whatever the crime was and the outcome of the crime, whether the charges were dismissed, sentence given, everything.  If you don't have the documents, request copies.  Most of it should be available in the court with jurisdiction over your case.  Attach all of the documents you can find.

That is not correct sir. All they want to see is the disposition of the case which shows the outcome. that is it.

Not quite right.  As the instructions state, they want "...all court and police records showing the charges and disposition for every arrest or conviction" for any of the specified crimes.  The police and court records of the charges are separate from the disposition documents.  "All" is an important little word in this context -- it is meant to include a report of all charges, in part to show things like whether they were pleaded down to a lessor charge, for example.

It depends on the crime... If it's any of the "specified" crimes, they need to submit all of the above, police records, court records, dispositions, everything. Any other arrest or conviction outside of the specified crimes need court certified copies of arrest record and/or disposition. Either way, always best to send in as much as possible to avoid any chance of RFE, so even if not the specified crimes, I'd try to get both police and court records anyway. 

 

You should also explain the conviction in detail.
