There is one thing i havent seen anyone bring up here. The constitution trumps all other laws. All sheriffs take an oath to defend the constitution. These sheriffs could conceivably argue they are upholding their constitutional duties by not enforcing unconstitutional laws.

That would be my argument if I was a LEO.  Taking guns and restricting guns is just Nazi like and I personally would not live in city or state that restricts my ability to own or carry a firearm.

Image may contain: one or more people, people walking and outdoor, text that says 'Why gun control? Because armed people will NOT willingly load themselves into railroad boxcars.'

Just when you think you have TDS eradicate,  a new case shows up.

It's a national emergency. Just like global warming. We must take immediate action to avoid disaster.

To be fair, the numbers are off a bit.  If you are part of the 1712 who are not in a gang or committing suicide, your chance of death by a gun is about 0.00054871%, not 0.0000085641%.

how recent are your stats  Asking for a friend ?

So if they were not dead, they really wouldn't have anything to worry about then.

I know what you are getting at, but statistics govern the chances of something that hasn't happened. For those 1712, the probability of death by firearm is 100%.

Great point.  Using THAT logic, I have a 2700.008769% chance of NOT being in the 1712.  Seeing as how I can still type and all...

Your rationale would apply, but technically you have a 100% chance of not being in the 1712.

If we use statistical analysis of historical data, then I think what you meant to say is for someone who is not in a gang or suicidal, that chances of being killed by a firearm are ~0.00054871%.  We don't know what that number will be in any given year, but we know it was 1712 people killed in whatever year your graphic is from.

You win the internetz for the day.  And next time I get into an argument with my wife, I’m gonna call you and put you on the phone to argue my side for me.  My logic usually fails.

Didn't you know your wife is always right? I have learned that one already in my few years of marriage.

I'll be watching what happens in the neighboring state of Oregon which is poised to pass some very restrictive gun "control" legislation.

Senate Bill 501 is the firearms bill that is among the strictest. It would limit ammunition purchases to 20 rounds in a 30-day period and prohibit firearm magazines that can hold more than five rounds.

Going to be interesting to see how the large rural and right leaning population reacts.

My son is getting very frustrated with life in Oregon and will likely be leaving in the near future.
