A bomb has exploded inside a car outside the courthouse in Londonderry.

The explosion occurred in Bishop Street at about 20:15 GMT on Saturday, shortly after police received a warning.

Officers were on the scene when the blast occurred. No one is believed to have been injured.

Police had just started evacuating nearby buildings, including a hotel, when the explosion took place. A cordon has been set up at the scene.

Local politicians have told the BBC that the vehicle was hijacked in Derry some time before the explosion

Did the BBC change the headline to the story? The headline on the post seems to insinuate someone wants No Ireland.  Punctuation can make a huge difference.

Brexit has been a catalyst in stirring up a lot of these feelings. There has been no border for so long it's difficult to imagine life with border security, work restrictions. It has felt like one Ireland, now .....

At this point I believe that the politicians in London would agree to a united Ireland if they felt it could be done peacefully. Unfortunately Northern Ireland is very fragile and it doesnt take much to set it off. Brexit has made it all extra sensitive again with talk of hard borders which upsets nationalists, that automatically raising the question of reunification and that upsets unionists.

Thinking back to the first time I crossed the border into the North I was so shocked and scared, the steel barriers with gun towers looking down on you as you passed through it was like entering a different world. Neither side should permit the country to return to those sad days.

I really dont know much about this topic, other than the IRA was always in  the news when I was young

If the citizens of Northern Ireland voted , would they vote to unite with the south as one Republic ?

Good question, they broke against brexit 55 to 45.as far as leaving the UK I have seen polls that vary, but I think the Brexit process has been such a disaster that the sentiment appears to lean toward leave.

In the past the answer would have been a big no with the voting divided by religion, protestants out numbered the catholics. I believe now that it is the opposite way and catholics are about 45% of the population, that doesn't necessarily guarantee a yes vote because some will choose to stay in the UK for financial reasons.

If you look at the history of Ireland you will see that the IRA were the original army of Ireland who fought for independence from the crown, not the same as it's same named organisation of modern times. These are a violent nasty crowd that commit some heinous crimes both sides of the border, but it is all these small splinter organisations that are the problem now. Also in the past there was many paramilitary groups on the opposite side who functioned and were sneakily armed by the UK government, these also have modern splinter groups who are no longer supported by the government.

Complicated doesn't even begin to explain the situation.

I'm not exactly sure that London would agree to a united Ireland, but I surely wish that London would give more respect and care to the territories within the kingdom and stop taking them for granted. The fact that the Tories are attempting to work with DUP (which has their own paramilitary ties and controversies) doesn't give me much hope. The whole Brexit thing was completely hamfisted. What did they really expect would happen?

I am not confident of that at this time. It is not just the IRA that the territory has to worry about now, there are numerous factions in play, just as violent and terroristic and all would jump at the chance to get control created by a destabilized power vacuum.
