Good morning 

☀️ 

has anyone seen the news about now you have to be married for 3 years to be able to file for spouse or the application might be denied ??? Just saw it in Univision 

wondering when it will go in effect 😔😔

OK. I listened to a bit and apologize if I didn't translate well. But it sounds like the person they are interviewing is talking about possible changes to immigration and being married to a US citizen

August 7, 2022: Wife filed N-400 Online under 5 year rule.

November 10, 2022: Received "Interview is scheduled" letter.

December 12, 2022:  Received email from Dallas office informing me (spouse) to be there for combo interview.

December 14, 2022: Combo Interview for I-751 and N-400 Conducted.

January 26, 2023: Wife's Oath Ceremony completed at the Plano Event Center, Plano, Texas!!!😁

February 6, 2023: Wife's Passport Application submitted in Dallas, Texas.

March 21, 2023:   Wife's Passport Delivered!!!!

May 15, 2023 (about):  Naturalization Certificate returned from Passport agency!!

 

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

February-April 2017 - stateside visit                                                                           June 18, 2018 - SSN/card received in the mail

April 4, 2017 - got engaged                                                                                          June 30, 2018 - submitted I-485 (AOS)/I-765 (EAD)/I-131 (AP) together

June 5, 2017 - submitted I129F                                                                                   July 9, 2018 - AOS/EAD/AP electronic NOA1 received

June 12, 2017 - received NOA1                                                                                   July 13, 2018 - AOS/EAD/AP hard copy NOA1 received (dated July 6, 2018)

December 1, 2017 - received NOA2                                                                            July 25, 2018 - Biometrics appointment (Charlotte, NC)

February 15, 2018 - medical appointment                                                                 August 28, 2018 - visited civil surgeon (Winston-Salem, NC) to complete I-693

February-March 2018 - trip to Gothenburg                                                                                                [beneficiary had to get one remaining vaccination stateside]

February 22, 2018 - interview at the US Embassy in Stockholm                            September 18, 2018 - I-485/AOS Interview in Greer, SC

                                    [passed, pending receipt of medical papers]                           September 18, 2018 - case status updated to "Card Has Been Issued/Mailed"

February 27, 2018 - medical papers received by Embassy                                     September 25, 2018 - Green Card received in the mail

March 5, 2018 - visa received in the mail with passport                                          October 6, 2018 - traditional wedding with family & friends

May 16, 2018 - POE in Charlotte, NC

I know there is a 3 year rule to apply for citizenship, but that is 3 years from having a green card in USA, I am also searching for said article.

Something that big of a change would be all over our sources for immigration news/updates. I haven't found anything.

 

Are you sure it was not the standard "3 years married to a US citizen to file for citizenship" that this information is mistaken for?

from what I can gather by translate this is something that has already been talked about where USCIS has the right to deny a petition if not completed properly without the issuance of a RFE.

 

It further talks about maintaining a marriage for the entire 3 years when applying for citizenship or it will be denied

Yes and then he says you will have to be married for 3 years or they can also deny it which is crazy if it’s true

OK. I listened to a bit and apologize if I didn't translate well. But it sounds like the person they are interviewing is talking about possible changes to immigration and being married to a US citizen for a period of time is one of them. I think he even explained early on in the interview about immigration crack downs on fraud marriages.

 

There are plenty of talks about possible changes to immigration. In fact, VJ has ongoing threads regarding immigration reform and changes. Nothing has changed in immigration because it has to go through Congress first and there hasn't been any such changes presented as of yet. 

 

Also, there is no citing of reliable sources (US gov) for these changes in this news story.

 

This is simply a news story about changes that may come.
