Hey friends!

I'm curious, at what point of the process do I go for my police background check/ clearance? I am the beneficiary and I live in Canada. I heard a lot of mix up and controversy about which type of forms you need (there are two options for this in Canada?)

Do any of you happen to know exactly which form you need? Can you go to any RCMP building or must you go to specific ones that are required by the embassy (like the medical)?

Does my husband (the petitioner) need a police check? Thanks!

My fiancé lives in Quebec and went to his local RCMP to order his. I don’t think the petitioner (US citizen) needs one but perhaps others have more information on this. Good luck!

Petitioners do not need police checks.

Beneficiaries need them from every country they have lived for at least 12 months beyond the age of 16, with a few exceptions.

The rcmp police check can take up to 120 days I'm 30 days so far. You need to get the check that includes all rcmp holdings not the visa check this changed in late September. The name of the check is eluding me at this time

You will need the privacy act background check. It is not certified nor does it have fingerprints but fingerprints are required to get it. Go to local police, rcmp, or commissionaires to get it.  Its valid for 1 year.

I did mine outside Canada (as I live overseas) by sending my fingerprint impressions to an accredited agency that has direct connection to rcmp server. My result took 5 working days as expected when no match of criminal record is found and I received my police certificate immediately from the agency via email while they mailed the hard copy to me overnight. If a match is found, the investigation can take up to several months like 120 days.
