Medical Exam Completed but found something

Hello everyone,

My fiancee has just completed her medical exam and was informed by the physician that they have found something in her chest x ray that needs further evaluation. ( they have said that they found something in her lungs). Kind of worried and wondering what it can be. Can this cause her to be denied for a visa? I have read and heard that at times there is a way to get a medical wavier is there any truth to this? If so how can I go about this if needed? All though she does seem perfectly healthy and fine to me and her self also. She is not a smoker or anything an does not show any symptoms of any kind of illness so I'm a bit lost and confused. Can it be an error from the physician? Once again any information will be greatly appreciated.

Did she have any medical condition history? I am not sure but you have to check with NVC about the wavier. Hopefully everything should go well. All prayers with you.

She has never had any medical issues.

They might ask for more tests(e.g,sputum test) for tuberculosis which takes 6-8 weeks and if she comes negative she is free to go for her interview and if the results comes positive then she has to do treatment for 6 months and then she will go for her interview...(i am in the condition right now)

okay great thanks.

Hello everyone,

Does anyone know if you are able to do more than one medical exam for a k1 visa?

What's behind the asking of that question. Concerns? Second opinion? We'll try and address that when we know a little more. Thanks.

I think he's doctor shopping. In that case, I have two uncles who are doctors over there, one is a OBGYN and one a bone doctor, I think. But they will happily certify your fiancee does NOT have anything on her lungs whatsoever, for the right price, of course. And before anyone starts to chastise me, I AM KIDDING. It is called a joke.

Not a joke, though, you can get a second opinion all you want, but the only opinion that matters to the Consulate are the ones from the only two places that they authorized to do medicals for US immigration purposes:

Cho Ray Hospital (CRH)
Visa Medical Department

201B Nguyen Chi Thanh Street Ward 12, District 5
Ho Chi Minh City

Sorry to hear.

My fiancé has a scar on her lungs from Asthma from when she was a child.

Since we know about it ahead of time, she will be taking her previous x-rays with her and we went ahead and did a sputum, which should be matured by the time she is ready for medical and she will take those results as well. This way if there is any questions or doubts she can show them. It might help, it might not, we don't know for sure, but figure it can't hurt.

A second opinion is fine for personal use.

The embassy/consulate only cares about the panel physician's report.

I agree that it is likely something in the lungs that makes them want to check for TB...likely sputum for ~8 weeks.

If TB is confirmed, that's ~6 months of Directly Observed Therapy  (DOT) where you must take the meds in front of a medical professional to ensure you are taking them all and on time....it's crazy how many people start treatment, feel better after a couple weeks, then stop (which is very bad fore you and people around you!).

The above are CDC guidelines that the panel physicians must follow.

Yes, we know.

We went to a certified Dr. for the testing. He's worked with St Luke's in the past on these types of issues and understands he has to use certain documents from St Luke's in order for them to accept his test.

Wanting a second opinion

You can get a second opinion with another doctor but it'll be on your dime. The results will have no influence with the medical center that does the medical for your country. They're only interested in getting the information first hand.

"If both the smear and MTB culture test revealed positive result, applicant will be required to undergo treatment here in our facility, if you decided to have the treatment done in the province, a repeat medical exam will be required, but you will have to wait 1 year after treatment outside is completed. This means that, applicant has to wait an additional 1 year after the end of acceptable TB treatment before doing the repeat medical examination."
