Please, someone help because I am unsure of a few things. I understand I need a form i-130.

I also need passport photos of both of us, i-130a

We dont have any joint accounts or property because he has never been to the states before. So do I send the letters from people who know we are in a relationship as well as pictures of us together? No one mentions sending pics I'm wondering if I do this at the initial i-130, also is this where I send phone logs and chats? And fi ally, do I fill out the i-130a or does he have to?

Thanks everyone

Read, read, and read some more. And don't stop at the filing the I-130 stage. Learn every step beforehand... even the naturalization process that your spouse will have to go through in a few years. We have seen too many times people being ill prepared or being in a difficult situation with their immigration status because they did not know about the next steps and it was too late.

If you are married less than 2 years, your spouse will need to go through Removal of Conditions (ROC).

If you are still married in 3 years, he qualifies for naturalization.

Other things you should research is how to get him a SSN and what to do if you change address.

Also, be very mindful of immigration fees so you can save up for it. Immigration is not cheap.

As for SS#

When u  get to fill out the I 864 and spouse does DS 260, there is a place to check for USCIS to file for SS#

This makes it so much easier

ours came in less than 2 weeks

these r the little things ue learn here that make it easier

d

watch and read posts and embassy reviews from your portal (above) and be guided by the country u r dealing with

You can send letters from people. My mom wrote one and signed it and put her address on it. Make sure they state that they know your relationship is valid. You can also send pictures, emails, chat logs, etc... at this stage.

Focus on sending evidence of time spent together in-person, that is your strongest evidence; the letters carry little to zero weight in the overall evaluation of a file so skip those unless you are light on the type of evidence I previously mentioned.

Good Morning Taryn,

I know exactly what you are going thru,  My husband and I don't have any joint accounts either and he has never been to the States...looks like we are in the same boat

In my packet I put letters from family members that knew about our relationship, I also put as many pictures of my trips out there to Jamaica.

I also put my husband on my retirement benefits and also my renter's insurance

As far as the I130A...he doesn't have to sign because of him being overseas, but make sure you sign it...

Good luck on your journey

Ditto what everyone else said. Best evidence is that which shows FaceTime (pics together, boarding passes, receipts, etc), especially over several trips. Chat logs are good to show communication but make sure they show substance, not just mushy texts of love you and can’t wait to see you type stuff. Also, you can get a joint account in Jamaica. That’s what we did as well.

Just research research research to be informed on the front end rather than finding out things on the back end and it causes delays. Most of all, be patient!!!😊
