rcvd 10 year GC - 5 days later we got.......

Hi everyone...... So this is interesting . We were elated to receive the 10 yr GC with an approval letter, but then 5 days later received a letter from USCIS saying since our case was still under review,

they would place a 18 month extension on my wife's I-551 so she can continue to work and travel with no concerns.

WHAT??????? so we are confused............We have been trying to contact the office but we are always on hold forever. Anyone ever heard or experienced this yourself. What is valid, the GC or the letter???? I imagine only 1 of the 2 can be valid.

If you already have GC, just ignore everything else.

Does one not invalidate the other......Im just concerned that the most recent letter invalidates the 10 yr GC......thanks for your quick response

Was that the ROC NOA by chance?

IT WAS YES, but it came after the GC was received thats what threw us off............

I repeat. If you already have your 10 year card in hand,  ignore everything else.

Green card invalidates the NOA they are sending out to everyone.

Sounds like two different offices handling approvals and sending out letters... at the time of printing the 18 month NOA, the info they had was you're still in processing. Of course, you got approved meanwhile but they still sent the letter out since their info was out of date.

I got my 18 month extension letter after I received my green card also..  USCIS is just one big mess. 😛

Agreed. 

After my two year GC arrived in 2016 we got a letter stating that delivery had failed and the card had been returned to the Post Office.  By the time this letter arrived I'd had the GC for almost six months.  

I don't think the internal communication between departments at USCIS is terribly spectacular!
