Yeah, the difference is that I know when to stop trying to beat a dead horse. I've had that talk MANY times with my dad. He's like, "Oh you just like KILLARY". Nah, I don't, I actually didn't vote for her, but they both cheated on their wives, and it came out while they were president. The only difference is that Clinton was impeached and somehow people like my dad are totally cool with it because it was before he was president 'and it's up to them and God to figure it out'.

There do seem to be people within the current administration who would like to penalize Green Card holders for taking advantage of programs  like ACA and CHIP (which are not currently considered "being a public charge," and for which we legally qualify).  However, I hope that if they get their way and change our eligibility for those programs, they will not be able to make it retroactive - so we'd have to go off ACA if we are still LPRs and not citizens, but what we did when we did legally qualify for those programs wouldn't hurt us or our chances for citizenship.

Perhaps people can take their rambling about Trump and Clinton somewhere else and stay on topic.

 

If this policy goes into effect I guess I'll just end my health insurance I have through Obamacare and live without insurance instead. My spouse and I do not have health insurance through work. I don't think it's possible that this policy will work retroactively since Obamacare for immigrants is legal today. If so, hopefully the policy will be blocked in court like others have said.

A bad idea when you actually have assets, like savings for retirement.  One hospitalization could completely wipe you out.

 

If it is retroactive, we might move back to Scandinavia.  If the Sweden Democrats win in the upcoming election, I think I can assume that reason and order has returned to the region.  

 

The whole thing just pisses me off, because subsidies and subsidized healthcare are a stepping stone for a lot of families.  In the next two years, we'll be paying for an employer family plan anyway.

The retroactive part plus the Obamacare part are, in my opinion, ridiculous ideas intentionally added by the schemers of this "policy" as their Opening gambit for trolling purposes and to invite litigation in Federal Courts.

Yes, I am aware of that. But this policy will leave us with no other choice. Which is incredibly frustrating.

Well based on what i understand, trump has learned not to walk through a path in which he might need anyone's VOTE to have his dreams come true! and that is why he keeps using executive orders for every single policy or plan no matter how big or small the matter is  rather than going through normal path of making things into law! So he is not making a new law in here!  because a law would depend on congressional vote and he doesn't want to see anyone thinks or has opinion different than himself! so instead of making a law, he is trying to change the definition of " Public Charge" which does not need anybody's vote! and that is how affecting millions of people.   My question is also like many others:

1- The change should not be retro active!? since all who used the legal available services, did based on the current definition of the law at the time which was lawful.

2- Some of the service like obamacare was mandatory and you would be penalized for not using a healthcare plan! and how can you be penalized for that at this time because you didn't want to be penalized at that time? 

 

I mean this situation looks like the first days of the BAN when everything was messed up and a lot of people were victimized until things were a bit more organized and clearer later on!  I am going to apply for citizenship next month ( which is the earliest time i am allowed to apply) and i am very confused and worried now!

Honestly my husband and I just went without insurance until we earned it through work because Obamacare was still too costly for us even with the "subsidy".

The problem though is that it wasn't ACTUALLY mandatory. If you chose not to join in, you got penalized. Mandatory would be that they GAVE us insurance, in this case they gave us the OPTION to have insurance or not with penalty.

As i mentioned in my last post that the new changes should not be retro active and that is how it has been always anywhere in the world in regard to any new laws! ( I mean we are talking about the free world). But when i try to persuade myself that it should be this way and hopefully wont affect the past! but then i come to this realization that everything Trump does focuses on a fast return so that he can sell it as part of his promises kept during the next election! So if this was supposed to be the law starting today affecting anyone from this day on, then he could not see the result by the end of this 4 years of presidency and that would not earn him much credit for the time he needs it so he wouldn't bother himself stirring this trouble pot!  So I am guessing high probably he is going to make it count back in time for as long as he can go with!  I hope i am wrong and this wont work that way!
