That would explain why you had such issues.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

We finally just submitted yesterday, and I have an upcoming trip in late september. I am planning on printing my flight intinerary, but should I have anything else? I mean I have two kids back home, own my own house, work a part time job (+ currently a student online).

I have to admit it makes me nervous, but it is just a short 2 week stay, so I am not too worried.

We're now at the embassy stage and I am due to travel out next week (on an ESTA) for a 2 week trip - I've submitted my DS-160 and paid the interview fee, so this trip is incredibly close to the final hurdle.

Over the past couple of months I've been gradually collating all the docs I intend to take incase I get any hassle at POE (Atlanta). My list is:

  • Flight itinerary (which includes return flight).
  • Full copy of I-129F petition.
  • All subsequent notices (NOA1, NOA2, NVC - I'm unfortunately yet to receive anything from the embassy).
  • Evidence of employment (original contract, letter from my manager detailing the dates I am away and when I am expected to return).
  • Tenancy agreement and email correspondence between myself and agent.
  • Bank statements for Sept + Oct (acting as both proof of address and showing rent payments).

Does anyone think I should also include a copy of my DS-160 confirmation and the payment receipt for the fee?

Is there anything else recommended to take?

My last trip was March (again for 2 weeks), so I'm not too concerned about any red flags around that. My only concern is having enough to show that I will return.

I'm hoping that having 2 previous, relatively short trips where I didn't overstay and that were 4 - 6 months apart will say something too...

I will post an update after I have flown out!

It wouldn't let me edit so here it js:

Airline: United

Date: 19 Oct

UK Heathrow Airport to Washington D.C Dulles (IAD).

Flight was from 12.30 midday landed at around 3.30 EST.

Security line was insanely long took almost 3hrs.

Questions I was asked:

• what is the purpose of your visit?

(Visiting fiancé)

• how did you meet him?

(Over xbox a video game)

• where does he live?

(Provided exact addresss)

• how old is he?

(25)

• what is your occupation?

(I work in a corporate governance firm)

• how long are you here for?

(Until Nov 30)

• is he going to take care of you during that time?

(Yes)

• how much cash do you have?

(I am not carrying any cash)

• where does he live?

(Repeated question, responded the same)

• is this the first time you have visited him?

(No)

Conclusion: Welcome to the U.S, enjoy your stay.

(Prepared proof of ties, proof of noa2 etc and return flight but was not asked for any of this- note it can vary so best to take it just in case.)

So happy!

I returned today from my 2 week trip to visit my fiancé. I arrived at ATL POE and had all my docs ready if needed.

The officer motioned me to him and he asked where I was going. I responded with my final destination.

He then asked how long my trip was for. I responded that it was 2 weeks.

He wished me well and let me through.

He didn't give me any hassle or even ask who I was going to see (maybe obvious at this point given my travel history?). I was a little frustrated that I spent so much time collating everything and lugging it to the US (it was a heavy folder...), but I'm glad that I did as it's better to be overprepared rather than under. :D

Will an accidental overstay of a tourist visa affect our K1 approval chances?  We got approved by USCIS in November and waiting for NVC to receive it.  My fiancee was staying with me here for the past 3 months on a tourist visa, which ended on December 28 and his flight home was booked for that day.  Unfortunately his international flight got delayed and didn’t take off until 1:30 am on December 29. Could this affect our visa?

Any overstay can be big trouble.  Always leave wiggle-room for mechanical or weather issues.

Now, if he had boarded the plane before midnight and it sat till afterward, it might be different.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
