I have. And of course my husband was living with me. He is my husband. Of course he has a SSN. That is the law. But he did not know there would be an issue, becasue he never married an immigrant before. Neither of us knew. I guess everyone knows this. OK. But how did YOU deal with it? I think that is important to share. Not bash us for being stupid people. Why did we not know about this? I don't know. But what options are out there for others?

We got now:

1. AirBnb

2. Buy a trailer and land

Not sure what else was listed.

Earlier you said your husband grew up in the US when it was questioned if he lived in the PH too and was just as new to the transition as you. So which is it? Was he living with you in the PH this entire time? Was he living there a short time? Has he lived in the states for most of his life?

You have been REALLY vague about your situation, whether you realize it or not, and this is why so many people are getting frustrated with you and having a hard time grasping this whole story.

If your husband has grown up here... is NOT new to the US or how things work, including housing... then he has dropped the ball significantly for the sake of your relationship, and that's disappointing.

Bottom line - if your husband, a USC, rents or owns anything in his name, as his legal spouse, you should be able to move into that residence as an occupant. If your husband lives somewhere where another individual rents or owns the residence, THEY can also grant you occupancy in their home and consider you an occupant (such as if he were living with parents, a relative, etc.)

If your husband lived here prior to the two of you embarking on this process as a married couple, what was/were the reason(s) you could not move into that existing residence? Your story makes it sound like neither of you have ever lived here or tried to live here before, and came here together from a foreign country. But you said earlier, when someone suggested that to be the case, that it was not the case.

Håll ut, y'all.

I don’t really think many people will need these ideas becauaw they know what they get themselves into.

With that being said, even if one doesn’t know what’s coming...since they need a sponsor/co-sponsor I’m pretty sure MOST if not all will have a place to live.

Your intention of this thread is weird, you only answering specific questions is weird too and the fact that you’re a citizen now and still working on a bank account is just throwing everything over board...

not sure if I should laugh or cry but I definitely love this thread 😁😂

want some popcorn too? :pop:

Sounds very nice! How did you get her a house and car without SSN and credit? Wait, fiancé or fiancée?

I had house before I met her.  Car I just paid cash for it and had it waiting for her once she arrived.  I kept it in my name

Just when you think you have TDS eradicate,  a new case shows up.

Curious where any of you lived when you arrived? When we got to the states, NO ONE would rent to us, because a background and criminal check is required. And a US Social Security Card and Driver's License are required to rent anywhere. We actually spent time in homeless shelters and roach hotels when I first arrived. 8 months pregnant. Money in the bank. No one who wanted it. BTW-Scary, dirty, bug-infested motels cost $3,000 a month! I had my baby while living in the hotel, which sent CPS to investigate us for child abuse.

It was not a fun time being in the greatest nation on Earth. A warning to all coming here! And... I am curious how any of you did it. If you did it differently?

ok, i'll play. my husband owns his house so i just moved in. :D

and i wasn't bashing you for being stupid. i was honestly trying to understand how your husband could have petitioned / sponsored your CR1 visa to begin with considering all these "obstacles" you mentioned having.

Same. My husband owns his house I just moved in too :D

It was even worse for me because I came in K-1. Took 5 months after arrival to get work permit. At least with CR-1, you are ready to rock after coming in. But really,  it boils down to how much you know about the person you are marrying. Him on a vacation may not be the same as him in his natural environment.

I am filipino too. A lot of USD earners are very much overwhelm with the spending power they have in PH because of PHP's monetary value. Some who are broke here in US can live like a king in PH. Thus, the assumption and expectations start to build over them.

Pinoy Ako! ^_^

By housing sponsor they probably mean cosigner for a lease.  Also they are probably curious about credit score and income because why doesn't the USC just rent the apartment and list the other person as an occupant?

Oh, we don't need a co-signor. As for listing the immigrant as an occupant, you can't do that. I was over 18.

Sounds like you do need a co-signer, as you keep referring to the cost of living and credit scores/history as being important factors in your situation. That's the purpose of a co-signer. Like, my mom had to co-sign for my very first car I ever bought with my own money. I had the money for it, and paid it off with my own money, but I had new credit (pretty much as bad as bad credit), and not a lot of a financial history yet because I was just simply young and inexperienced.

You keep referring to yourself as "the immigrant". You're the USC's wife, and you said earlier you are a citizen now, so immigrant status should not longer be relevant going forward anyhow. LEGAL immigrants have just as much ability to find a place to live as a USC, given they have the appropriate documentation and money to do so. No go on the money - see above.
