Hi guys!

who among you here met your fiance through an online application that you can download for free? I have a question though. When you filled out the I-129F form, did you just indicate that you met online and just attached a declaration about how you met in person? Have you guys received an RFE regarding this?

And one more thing, should my passport be valid for six mos at least during the interview?

@Margeee. No i did not indicate the name of the site, because if is not a website that USCIS recognizes as legit non IMBRA qualifying site like Match.com or Facebook....you are going  to have to explain with proof in their rules and user term agreement that is does not qualify as IMBRA.

I used an unknown app that didn't charge me to meet my fiancee and tbh don't even remember what it's name was by now. It was a social media app. most couples here i assume turned on the internet to meet online anyways

Yes, you have to state in what website you meet. And when you are making your petition do include the Website’s(where you meet) Terms of Service

Your passport should be valid for as long as possible.  You should ideally have it renewed just before interview so it has the maximum allowable time (normally 10 years).

K1, you are expected to enter, marry within 90 days and then adjust your status.

At the moment AOS is taking anywhere up to 6 months (and longer for some people if there are problems). Assuming you marry a month after entering, then take a month to gather all documents (it takes a while for the 'official' marriage certificate to arrive, not the pretty one you get on the day) that's at least 8 months.

You won't be able to travel at all during that time, and most American-based Embassies for other countries are able to issue emergency travel passports, they don't do normal renewals though (as far as I'm aware) so it makes FAR more sense to have a passport with proper validity than not.

I met my now husband on an online forum. We only wrote "met online" and then listed how/when/where we met in person within the last two years on a separate sheet. We never specified anything about how or where we originally met online, only that we "met online". We never received an RFE.

Others get RFEs for not giving enough info about this though.
