Hey everyone! If I have sent certified copies of my marriage certificate with the application, do I still need to bring another one to the green card interview? It says in the interview notice letter to bring one. I sent two copies (original i.e. certified) with my application and I thought I had another one but just realized that I don't. It's just that I just moved across the country after getting married and I won't be able to get one in time for my interview next week (!!!) and I'm freaking out.

I need some help on the EAD file if anyone could spare a moment :) . Question 20. and 21.

I think i have found the correct letter and number that it wants under "Eligibility category" C - 9  (correct me if im wrong)

Also since I answered Q:20, it says list your degree and employers name etc. I dont know what to put there. :(

Hey @Cristina24.

You're correct. You're under category (c)(9), since you came on the k1 visa.

So if you read question 21 carefully, you'll see that it's just for the category (c)(3)(c). You don't need to answer this one.  :)

Hello Jakk, what you can do is make a copy and go to your bank and get it notarized by one of their representatives; it should be as good as a certified copy and should be free or a small cost at your local bank. Most banks always have at least one representative who is a notary public.

Sometimes with the transfer of files, USCIS might lose some of their documents so it is always good to have a copy of everything you submitted.

Dont be freak out, everything will go well and it will be great! Good luck :)

Hey Jakk, I suggest you take a photocopy of the already submitted marriage certificate  with you to your interview explaining why you couldn’t bring the certified copy, because you won’t be able to notarize the photocopy without an original. And by the way, marriage certificates are only notarized in courts I think and what you got when you guys got married were the already notarized copies. If this doesn’t satisfy the immigration officer as enough evidence, you’ll be issued an RFE after your interview thereby giving you enough time to submit an original or certified copy which you can only get from the court where you guys got married.

Y'all watch my frustration when I see they updated the AP/EAD case inquiry date from Nov 16 2017 to Nov 17 2017.

They update that website every month around the 15th.

With the amount of people that pays almost $2000 to be able to work(!!!!), we shouldn't be waiting this long. This is insane!

You're paying almost $2000 to be a resident of the US. The EAD is free to apply for when AOS through marriage.

03/02/18 - AOS Sent

04/02/18 - Biometrics appointment @ Field Office

04/16/18 - Courtesy letter received re: Medical

07/17/18 - EAD card in production, AP approved

07/21/18  - Combo card in hand

10/18/18 - GC Interview  (Approved on the spot)

I don't think so, since you can still prove that SSN belongs to you based on your name appears on passport. You need to apply for a new SSN after receiving your green card, so that it will not have any restriction at all and it will use your married name too.

Thank you very much for the information! 🙂

It is entirely up to you. Bear in mind that SSN is required for several things in your new life. Opening of bank accounts, insurance policy... and etc. There are 2 types of SSN, one is valid for work only with DHS Authorization, this is restricted like what the other member suggested. Having this kind of SSN, you cannot apply for any loans from bank (if you intend to begin building your credit ratings). While the other one you can only apply after you got your Green Card, which doesn't have any restriction, same as all US citizen.

I applied for SSN right after wedding (after having my official marriage cert printed). This is due to the new name I've taken after my partner. I do not want my maiden name to be on the SSN because you will have to change it again later.

So, you either apply for it after marriage (if you plan to have name changed). Or apply for it now before marriage (if you do not intend to change your last name).

Whatever you do, apply before your i-94 expires, otherwise you have to wait until you got your EAD(Work Permit) before you can apply for anything. Your i-94 only valids for 3 months from POE date. Your EAD may take between 3 - 6 months for approval from date of AOS submission (if you apply for one).

Thanks my friend! I will apply for SSN after marriage because i do want his last name :)  May I ask where you found the expiry date for the i-94? Is it on the stamp the officer put in my passport on the day of my arrival? I came the 14th of march and the expiry says 11th of  june. I did also print my most recent I-94 paper online and it says under "Admit until date" 07/14/2017. So im confused...

What does the stamp in your passport say?

Seems like a typo? I'd call CBP to have it corrected, if that's possible.

it says 11th june 2018. I know i thought that too. I think i will go ahead and put the correct year if its a typo.

Does the I-94 that shows the admit until date of 7/14/2017 also show that the most recent date of entry to be your entry on 3/14/2018?  Your date should be 6/13/2018.  You may need to contact them about it.
