Delivery of Petition

Someone I know told me they always drop off their immigration forms at the local immigration office. They live in Philadelphia so I know there is no lockbox near them. Is it still allowed to do this?

I know what the form says about mailing it, but I really don't want to risk lost mail if this can be delivered face to face.

Nope

No idea what most people say.

you mail it per instructions to the lock box indicated

they decide what office will porcess your case

for the best advise here let the community know what country and embassy you will be dealing with

and create a timeline / you may not have already sent applicaiton but i will assume you married so a timeline can be started

and don't listen to the street / follow the instructions on USCIS.gov site / BTW there are sites that look like they are USCIS and are not make sure it is government site

For Pennsylvania you have to send an I-130 to the Chicago lockbox. Now I don't know which petition you're looking to deliver. You can always add tracking to your packet. And only deliver copies so you can recreate your packet in case of loss. You should have a complete copy of your packet anyway.

Local field offices intake a very limited number of forms and applications.  If the USCIS website says that it is to be filed with a lockbox facility, the local office WILL NOT intake this form.

YMMV

The best way to lose your documents is to deliver them to the wrong location.  Just follow the written instructions, add tracking or signature-required delivery to your packet.  Good luck in your journey.

Thanks. Haiti and the embassy in Port-au-Prince is the area being dealt with.

Thanks. I totally understand what you are saying. So, if I send this to the Chicago lockbox FedEx with a required signature, they will sign to receive the package and not refuse it? This has been a concern of mine that they may have some stipulation that they don't want to sign, etc. I don't trust the USPS around Christmas season because I've already had two major delays in packages sent to individuals. I trust FedEx, UPS, or DHL though and would like to send it with a signature required because you never what immigration laws may try to change during the Christmas season. A lot of things politically try to happen at Christmas season when nobody is paying attention.

Yes, I am to use the Chicago lockbox also. This is what USCIS told me when I searched their website a few months ago.

Have you tried to deliver it face to face or are you just saying this because most people say this?

I mean, the official instructions say nothing about it and tell you to mail it in.

If that's not good enough feel free to follow the advice of random people and see how that goes.

You don't have to get an attitude. If you read my original post, I said I know what the instructions say. I know this person; they are a good friend. I just wanted clarification if this still is possible.
