Hello! I'm glad to say I finally received my  CR1 visa a few days ago. I'm planning my trip out to the US on November 24th, at that time we'll be just 24 days away from our second year marriage anniversary. My visa expires 11 days before the anniversary so pushing my trip back wont make much difference. Is there any chance I'll get permanent status since our anniversary isnt so far out?

ROC is pretty easy if you prepare.  Keep everything that shows you live together and co mingle your lives in a box for 2 years.

Sorry to hear that,

We've got the opposite case. The process took so long that by the time my husband enters we will have been married 2 years.

Here's the kind of curious thing - we just got an email notification that NVC will schedule an interview, and on the document, what used to say CR1 on previous documents has changed to IR1... even though we're about a month and a half away from our anniversary. Did the agent processing just know that my husband won't get his visa or enter the country until after the anniversary?

I guess in your case it wouldn't hurt to call?? I didn't realize the visa has such a short life... I thought it was valid for 6 months.

What I know for sure is that your status (IR or CR) depends on the date of your entry. I think you are implying that you know that as well.

What Is Conditional Residence?
If you have been married for less than two years when your foreign citizen spouse enters the United States on an immigrant visa, his or her permanent resident status is considered “conditional.” The immigrant visa is a conditional resident (CR) visa, not an immediate relative (IR) visa.

does not make sense

if you just got your visa it is good for 6 months from medical exam and you could wait to travel giving you the 10 year green card

Yes, what Adil-Rafa said... why do you think it is going to expire?

Are you sure the visa expires in a month? That doesn’t make any sense that they issued a visa that’s only valid for a month. I was told by the embassy in Sweden that they don’t issue visas with less than three months validity, which is why I had to get a new police certificate.

And no, if you immigrate to the US before your two year anniversary, you’ll get the temporary green card and have to ROC.

Please clarify why a visa you say was "received a few days ago" is going to expire so soon.

no change u get 10 year green card.

person like u should get new medical with new interview letter.  with new medical your visa no expire in december.  with new medical expire in april ur could get visa with expire in april.  so person like u next time get new medical so u come after 2 years married for 10 years green card cuz cheaper and easier than ROC.

I had my medical on June 7th and interview June 9th, but was refused. We questioned/appealed the decision, it went into administrative processing and I just got it issued Nov 6th, a month and a day til my medical expires. That's why I'm on such short time. Either way, we're glad we got and it I'm sure we won't have a problem readjusting two yrs from now. SabrinaJerome thanks for suggesting to call. It won't hurt to try.
