Nutty Nancy trying to force social justice upon the military..

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi slammed Republicans for trying to “rip away” health care for transgender service members.

In a statement Thursday, Pelosi said the “disgusting” attempt to restrict funds from being used to provide gender transition treatments is “unprecedented, unacceptable and undermines our national security.”

“Republicans should be ashamed: instead of protecting the men and women who risk their lives to defend our freedoms, they are fighting to rip away the health care of thousands of brave service members,” Pelosi said in a statement. “This cowardly Republican amendment targeting transgender men and women in uniform effectively bans these patriotic Americans from serving their country.”

Missouri GOP Rep. Vicky Hartzler filed an amendment to the House National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) which successfully moved through the Rules Committee.

If passed, the bill would entail that “funds available to the Department of Defense may not be used to provide medical treatment (other than mental health treatment) related to gender transition to a person entitled to medical care.”

While Colorado Democratic Rep. Jared Polis attempted to block the amendment moving to the floor, the Rules Committee struck down Polis’ attempt.

Polis serves as the co-chair of the LGBT Equality Caucus.

The reason for the amendment is that Hartzler believes pro-transgender policies reduce military readiness.

Military service is a privilege, not a right,” Hartzler said in June. “It is predicated on winning wars and defeating the enemy. All decisions on personnel and funding should be made with this in mind.

Honestly I did not like this when I first heard that they were allowing these surgeries and I still don't like it at all. But thing is because I have actually been in the military and see what happens. I have seen women actually get breast augmentation surgery basically implants. So if they don't allow transgender to do the surgery then they don't need to allow those to have breast augmentation as well barring some life changing event like breast cancer.

I showed my wife the news article earlier, her previous marriage was to a guy in the service. She said the wives used to fake a complaint of back pain to get a size reduction or a psychological issue to get an enlargement. Seems crazy to be paying for surgeries like this when the va is in need of a major funding.

I don't get Pelosi's argument, but I also think this Hartzler guy is talking a bit out of his bumhole

In what way does pro-transgender policies "reduce military readiness"? Any data on that? I'm not even sure of the logic behind that. They seem like two very different things. A better argument would be about funding and whether gender transition should be a "Lower priority" vs. other things that could be seen as more "medically necessary".

Part of military readiness is being a cohesive unit, rather difficult when people are whining about stuff like this. The point of the military is not to whine about things as if this is an elementary school classroom. Nancy Pelosi treating it as such is, ironically, what really hurts national security.

He says that "Pro-transgender policies" reduce military readiness. Not talking/"whining" about the policies, the policies themselves.

If there were pro-transgender policies in place, who would be whining? Certainly not the people who support the policies.

Which doesn't actually answer my question.

If you want to refer to the quote in bold, then are you implying that what he really means is military service is a privilege and he doesn't think transgender people deserve that privilege?

Someone being transgender has nothing to do with their ability to "win wars and defeat the enemy".

I'm looking for an explanation for how exactly policies supporting transgender participation in the military hurts military readiness. How is it connected? Is there data that proves that transgender people are less capable?
