But so are the sales taxes for products paid for with paychecks that were already taxed. It seems that taxes propagate.

Not successful in life, get government to take from someone who is. :bonk:

Although this site erroneously attributes this to Karl Marx, it seems appropriate.

So I absolutely agree that the "part" of Obamacare that dealt with pre-existing conditions was essential. However, it could have been passed without the mandate, which was what was far more contentious. Any mandate to the insurance industry will raise prices.. as predicted by those critical of Obamacare. Virtually everything Obama and Democrats promised about Obamacare was a lie.

The thing with the individual mandate is that it was supposed to help spread the cost of buying insurance over the population. The problem was that a lot of young, healthy people opted to pay the penalty instead of buying insurance.

I just don't understand the lack of compassion Americans have for others. Before my diagnosis, when I used healthcare only for my annual physical and maybe a sinus infection every five years or so, I was still willing to pay more in taxes to help less fortunate. Five full years before cancer entered the picture, one of the major reasons I voted for Obama was because of his promises to overhaul the healthcare system and I really felt for people who needed healthcare and it was inaccessible to them. Why are Americans so unwilling to help their fellow countrymen?

The thing is we are willing to help others who are less fortunate than us, that is why we have Medicaid. But what a majority of Americans feel is that we do give people a lift up not a hand out. I am more than willing to help people but I have seen first hand how people take advantage of food stamps,  Medicaid, and other people. So now I will concentrate on taking care of my family before anyone else comes into the picture.

Obama was a bad president and only got elected because he was a good speaker and he is black. If you couldn't see through his lies then you can't think for yourself.

Most businesses that do not turn a profit pay little to no taxes, so that would apply to these struggling churches as well. That's not really an issue.

Plus, if they were to be incorporated as an LLC, the "business"(church) would still not pay any taxes. The members then pay personal income tax on whatever sums of guaranteed payments they received by the church(ie from themselves) throughout the year. Would make sense if you're making enough to pay yourself in non-profit, you would be taxed like the rest of us are.

My youngest sister went through the same thing.. 20 years of fighting leukemia. Several bone marrow transplants, and years of chemo, until she finally beat the cancer.

Both of my sisters are half-sisters to help make the next paragraph make more sense.

She was insured by her mother and her step-dad.. they had a total of 3 insurances, the step-dad worked for NASA at Moffett Field, had amazing insurance, plus he had another plan, on top of step-mom's, so total of 3 insurances covered her. Absolutely none of them wanted to cover her for her pre-existing condition of cancer. In the end, it was state medicare (MediCal) that covered her for her final bone marrow at UCSFMC (University of California San Francisco Medical Center), the one where she wound up being cancer-free, after more than one other cancer had occurred as well -- so finally beat cancer. It was absolutely no thanks to the "insurances" whose underwriters exist to try and deny people adequate care -- counter-productive to the idea of healthcare.

So I absolutely agree that the "part" of Obamacare that dealt with pre-existing conditions was essential. I would repeal it first, then Republicans should pass something more reasonable, if anything, but at the bare minimum, repeal Obamacare, pass legislation for pre-existing conditions. They seem to be pretty incompetent at passing anything else since January.

The mandate was there to prevent the whole issue of people waiting till they are sick. If you repeal the mandate, what do you put in the pre-existing condition legislation instead? My opinion is known(waiting periods) but what's yours?
