Hi everyone,

Please my fiancee is inviting me to the USA on a tourist visa to visit her mom before we file k1 visa... My question is do I stand a chance of getting the tourist visa only to visit my fiancee's mom and return?

Thank you everyone for the replies

A B2 is issued based on your merits and ability to prove your strong ties back home. You can only try to find out. No one can predict the approval or rejection :jest:

For my I-129F, K-1, AOS, EAD, AP and ROC detailed timelines, please refer to my timeline page :)

ROC filed on December 1, 2020, assigned to SRC, approved within 106 days on February 18, 2021.

My sincerest gratitude to all VJers, especially the late geowrian.

Yes, it is possible.  But you must show strong ties to your home country. Always be truthful .

It will not have any affect on the K-1.

No, B2 refusal doesn't affect a K-1 application. I was refused a B2 before but received my I-129F NOA2 to proceed with K-1 just fine.

Just remember the tourist visa is all about you and your ties to make sure you do not plan on staying as the other responders have said.  There is nothing your fiancé or her mom can do to assist you in getting approval.  I also agree, it will not impact a K1 unless you misrepresent yourself in the B2 application.  My now wife applied twice for a tourist visa and was denied both times, and our K1 was a breeze.

Good Luck!

Your chances are slim but you can try.
When they ask who you will visit and you say your fiance's mother then that will actually show your ties to the USA are

stronger to your fiance here than the ties to your country. They will think you will stay, marry  and try to adjust status.

Rarely will someone from Nigeria get a visa to visit their fiance or fiance's mother....fact is you will still be with your fiance.

Be truthful whatever you say in the interview because too many were refused a K1 when inconsistencies either verbal or in

previous application data came to light in a K1 interview. If you answer truthfully that you want to visit your fiance's

mother then you will not have a problem with a K1 even if denied the B2 application.

We also tried for a tourist visa before the K1 and were denied.  It's not an issue for the K1 (we were approved), as long as you can explain at the interview about why you wanted a tourist visa ( to visit your fiancé'a mother is fine).

For the tourist visa, it can be hard.  You have to show strong ties and they will most likely reject you bc you have a fiancé.  They will tell you that you are applying for the wrong type of visa and to go for the K1 (at least that was our experience)

Good luck with everything!

How's your ties to Nigeria? Your travel history? Those stamps in Passport from other countries. It's very remote. And you being young and single is also a red flag and a possible denial. But you will never know if you never apply. Only cost $160.

Know it's all about what you put on your application. All that bring this and that at interview won't work. So if they see lack of job history, who you are visiting, why, no petition in system. Well they will probably not trust you will return. All visitors are always considered an immigration risk.

My Fiance is from The Gambia and he was denied the Visitors Visa and he stated exactly what he was using it for. He is young, never been married, and had his employer give him a letter approving him for a one month vacation. Still it was a no. But it wouldnt hurt to try. Just dont get your hopes up.

I attached the generic denial he got, didnt even have his name or file number on it. They just pass these out to everyone.
