Certified Copy of Marriage License

Hi guys, 

 

Our green card interview is in 2 weeks! We completed the biometrics interview a few months ago. On our most recent i797c notice of action for our scheduled interview, it states that we should bring along a certified copy of the marriage license. Does this mean we need to bring in the marriage license itself, a photocopy of the marriage license, or actually order a $15 or so certified copy of the license? It's a bit confusing. Please let me know at your earliest convenience!

Thank you!!! I'll be bringing in another letter from my employer. It IS a little confusing but I guess we should air on the side of bringing too much rather than not bringing enough.

I would take a copy of both your AOS and K1 complete package along with other proof of relationship items such as photos, bank statements, utility bills, insurance documents etc.  Sometimes USCIS misplaces documents during transfers, and I remember with our interview there was on the IO asked for that we had in our K1 package.

 

Also to your original question, yes, take a certified copy of the marriage certificate.

Follow the exact directions and bring what is asked for, a certified copy. You can not bring the original, that stays at the court house.
You go there and pay the $15 for a certified copy. Make one extra, it is always good to have one on hand.

They don't want the marriage license ( document to apply for marriage, limited days validity )

They want a certified copy of the marriage certificate ( document you receive AFTER you marry, original stays with court, make certified
copies. Not photo copies.)

You can just drive over to Norwalk and use their computers to get extra certified copies of your marriage certificate, yes it's  $15 for each copy. You should at least have a copy each, bring one of them to the interview.

 

And as has been stated before - they want to see the marriage certificate, not the marriage license.

Not very confusing actually...a certified copy. Can you not go to your local office and get an original or certified copy of your marriage certificate?   Not sure about your state but in Hawaii we call it a marriage certificate, not a marriage license.  Here a MARRIAGE LICENSE allows us to get married.  After marriage the state department of health issues a CERTIFICATE OF MARRIAGE.  Two very different documents, here at least.  I am assuming they want this because you previously submitted a copy of the document.  They usually want you to bring an "original" along to the interview.  Good luck.

sorry guys. i meant certificate not license. thank you for your replies. what did guys do about the Affidavit of Support (i864)? did you submit one in the initial application? if so, did you take another one to the green card interview? the requirements say, if one is already submitted, then no need to..

I suggest you fill out your timeline so we know when you filed etc, makes it so much easier to answer your questions. If you filed for AOS before you filed the taxes this year then I would fill out a new i-864 with the most recent tax year (2016) on it, and bring the tax return transcript for 2016 as well.  If you filed for AOS later then maybe you already sent that info in your package.

Applied for AOS in november, did biometrics in December, got an RFE, then received Interview date in March but rescheduled interview, then received interview date last week saying my green card interview is in mid june

So the latest tax year you provided was 2015 then, I would definitely bring a new i-864 where 2016 is added too, and then the tax return transcript for 2016 as well. Just in case.
