DENIED yesterday at k1 visa interview - help!

Hello, 

 

Had my interview at the UK consulate yesterday, but was denied for a caution for possession of cannabis in 2009 - 8 years ago when I was 18. Passed the drug test at the medical too!

I have heard about people getting the same treatment and actually having their case later approved roughly about a week later - can any one shed some light on this please? How I would go about doing this? Or what to do next if that is not an option?

Contact them immediately and see if you could get a second interview. I'd doubt it though. 

 

Usually your only options is to refile the petition for another K-1 or marry and do the CR-1.

Ask the Embassy if you are waiver eligible. Marrying now and starting the CR-1 process or another K-1 process won't solve this issue.

The big question is did you admit to having smoked weed before or that you had done ANY drugs at the medical? Did they know about this before you went in or did they find out when you gave them your police cert?

Almost any "I have smoked weed" has gotten people a denial and a ban for a year.

There was someone last year in the same situation at the London embassy. They were told they had a ban for a year and had to attend regular drug testing through that time period of the ban. Was anything of this nature mentioned to you? After the drug testing that person was successfully granted a visa. 

 

EDIT: just re-read your post. Yours was a possession caution. The person I'm thinking of had a clear police certificate but admitted to usage once at the medical. Did you admit this at the medical?

We seem to be seeing this more and more lately.  A one year ban with testing and rehab is not unusual

You can get through a denial and waiver in the K1 process.  Please review my timeline!!

Indeed. I just don't understand why a one year ban when the drug test is clean and no matter how long ago it was. Had he applied next year, it would have still incurred a year. Feel bad for OP :/
