Schumacher says his grandson didn't have a chance. The 17-year old, he says, never got into trouble.

Wonder what trouble is, obviously not burglary.

Or maybe he was mourning the loss of his grandson and was upset and said what he thought.

Or that he did not know him very well. Perhaps we are supposed to believe this was his first rodeo?

I know it might be difficult for you and a few others to comprehend, but most people are upset when someone they really care about gets killed, even if it's their own fault. Imagine that.

Getting upset because you have a gang banger relation is one thing, making yourself a fool in the media nother.

Mixed feelings.

Obviously the grandfather is going to be upset. His grandson is dead. Whether the grandson had a history of burglary or not doesn't really matter, it is always difficult seeing a relation younger than you pass away. One the criminals was 16 the article said. As I've already mentioned, I find that really sad. Yes he was a "criminal", but he was still only 16 and now he is dead.

I agree though that saying it wasn't a "fair fight" is a little silly given the circumstances. I think there is something to be said for "They had brass knuckles, and the person shot them with an AR15", which is commenting on the disparity between the offense and the defense. However, the judgment of the grandfather, and my own judgment, both have the benefit of hindsight. At the time, the young man defending his home likely had no idea how well (or not well) the intruders were armed. There were three of them, he likely saw at least some weapons (knife, knuckles). He can't be judged for using what defense he had at his disposal. Not doing so would have put himself at risk and at the end of the day it was never intended to be a "fair fight" by the intruders.

The whole prospect of a fair fight is ludicrous, perhaps it would be fair for the perps family houses to be broken into?

Yes I completely agree with you. A "fair fight" or "unfair fight" are both moot points here. He wasn't a "fight". It was an armed home invasion.

The burglars were dealt with in a proper manner, but the weapon was a bit much.  A nice handgun would have done the same job.

Me thinks the guys looking for the bigger guns are the same guys looking for the huge SUV's, some kind of over-compensation for a lack in the manhood department.

They came to the party dressed to dance (with weapons), breaking in... They new what they were getting into. Life can be sad, but sadder when the innocent have to suffer. Am glad the guilty suffered this time. But you can be sure they forced the innocent to suffer through this as well. Am glad he cut them down before they cut HIM down.

And that sure is a hoot, that some people think we should give those who want to do us harm a fair chance. You use whatever force you have at your command to put them down! So idiotic to think you would give a person a fair chance who wants to harm you... Sheesh

I agree. Killing them with a .223 round was so much more offensive had he shot them with a 9mm pistol round.

I just never cease to be amazed
