NY Times ad seeks truth during the Oscars

The New York Times is running its first television ad in seven years during the Oscars Sunday night. The subject? The truth.

The ad begins with voices saying, "The truth is our nation is more divided than ever," with those words spelled out against a white backdrop. The phrase then changes to "The truth is alternative facts are lies." The ad repeats different versions of the "The truth is..." as the voices speed up and get louder. It ends with: "The truth is hard" and "The truth is more important now than ever." 

 

The ad's mission is to tap into "national dialogue going on right now about facts and the truth" and what that means in today's world, according to New York Times branding exec David Rubin. 

"The idea is to be a part of that discussion about what does it mean to find the truth," he said. "What does that mean in a world of 'fake news'? And what is the role of journalism and journalists in that process and what is the role of reader in supporting that journalism?"

Interesting tactic.  I wonder if their bottom line I taking a hit.  I will have to YouTube the commercial as I am not a big fan of award shows.

Not only is the liberal media holding Trump accountable, more and more I hear republican voters come out and demand the so-called president come clean with the truth about how he got elected, his tax returns, Russian hacking, and so many other irregularities. I bet Putin never anticipated this level of mobilization by the American people.

The issue with the so-called president is that he wants to choose what truth is. At this point, he's already making Nixon look pretty good.

Actually the NY slimes has been taking a financial hit recently. They actually had to lay off some of their staff and rent out their offices to generate revenue. Most people know fake news when they see it and that is exactly what the NY slimes is. A fancy TV ad is not going to stop their decline. The other big fake news outlet CNN isn't doing too well either. People are sick of being lied to.

Actually the only people that believe the conspiracy theory that Trump is a Russian agent are the fringe lefties. Some people just love a good conspiracy theory I guess. In the real world though the Clintons have more ties to Putin than Trump. Classic tactic of the left. Accuse your opposition of what you yourself are guilty of.

So true. They are digging their own graves by speeding fake news like a wildfire in Yellowstone. I think the ad would be the equivalent of using a spray bottle to slow down a forest fire. What they really need to do is stop the collusion with the Democrat party and quit lying. I
