Thanks a bunch! That's very helpful. 😃

I'll look into the clinic in Gothenburg, easier choice anyway since I actually have an idea how to navigate that city.. unlike Stockholm (which I still have to do for the interview tho, lol).

Still a little bit of time left to go before it's time.

My husband had a very good experience with the medical office in Gothenburg :) No complaints.

Stockholm wasn't so bad, for the interview - I was actually visiting at the time his interview was scheduled so I was able to go with him. We took the train to Stockholm (he lived in GBG at the time) and got a hotel right by the train station, so not too much navigating. Decent cab ride to the embassy the morning of the interview.

Håll ut, y'all.

Hey, hope everyone is doing well. I have a question I thought I might ask in here because I suspect I might not be the only one. And yes I know I should've changed this earlier, preferably before I did the K1, but I didn't so I'm really just checking if anyone's had any success in doing it during AOS.

I have two first names but I only go by one of them, and I would like to (1) either switch their order, or (2) put one of them as my US middle name.

1. I swap the places of my two first names via Skatteverket, and once that's done I apply via the NYC Consulate for a new passport, and once that's done I try to figure out a way to update the USCIS.

2. I write the New York City Civil Court and have my name changed in the US, I then have it changed in Sweden too (but my passport will never reflect my name change, since my middle name in my Swedish passport can't be a "first name" right), and then I notify the USCIS about this new middle name that isn't even a middle name in my passport...

Has anyone done option one or two during AOS? How can I let the USCIS know, mid-AOS, that my name has changed? Would it be better to just wait for my GC, and then wait two years, and then try to deal with it while applying for ROC? I feel like that could pose problems too, because ROC can take time, and during all that time I'm assuming I would not be able to travel with a passport reflecting my new name and my old GC reflecting my old name.

Nobody changed their names? :innocent:

Most of us changed our last names, and that's not an issue at all neither in Sweden or the US. Changing other names though is different here in the US, no idea how that process works. Maybe you need to have something signed somehow to get a name change through here. Last name is easy as that can be changed with just a marriage certificate. Other names, not so much.

Ask in the main forum and you might get answers.

I changed the order of my middle names but I did that before I went here. I think I even changed it before coming here as an Au Pair because I didn't want to risk being called by my middle name wherever I went.

Smart! I just underestimated how difficult it would be to do it once I was here.

Honestly, I think you need to go a civil court to have it done, and be there for the hearing. Or, you can change your name when you become a citizen, if you have plans to become one.

Hello everyone, I have a question regarding the K1 medical exam. I read the medical is around $400, my fiance went today and got charged $400 for the medical and $300 for the vaccines, MMR and Influenza.  Is this price consistent with other here regarding vaccination and the medical?

TIA

I paid roughly $367 for min back in 2015 though I am not sure about the dollar value vs the krona back then. Where did your fiance go for the medical? Gothenburg? $300 for MMR and influensa seems a bit steep. The clinic in Stockholm were really reasonable with only $30 for my tetanus shot.

My fiancé went to the doctor in Stockholm also. To be exact, the explanation was $60 for influenza, then MMR is a 3 in 1.

That is crazy. And weirdly enough MMR vaccine is not even listed on their website. So 300 minus 60 would be $240... I looked at another clinic in Stockholm and they charge $48.50 for their MMR. Insane.

My fiancé and myself is baffled about this as well.  Fiancé looked up and found out all these vaccines can be had outside for $120.  Did the doctor give you the ds-3025 form for AOS when you got to the states?

I had measles, mumps and rubella as a child. I'm in my late fifties now. I'll be going to the doctor in Gothenburg. Will he take my word that I've had these illnesses or will I have to take a blood test to prove it?

The embassy gave me a copy of it when I went to the interview. Your fiance should ask for it if she's not given one. I've heard of people even asking for a copy from the doctor during their visit but I didn't even think about it. Luckily they gave me the copy at the embassy.

That was the same thing for me. You can test for antibodies and see if you need to take a shot. But it’s cheaper to take the shot. I have figured out that vaccines are VERY important here in the US.
