Well most kindergarten age kids are not yet capable of providing some form of service.

The military has great programs to earn a degree

I will have to ask ''Eyepatch Man'' one of our local homeless, former vet with one leg and no eye and is addicted to drugs and now makes his life living in a tent in the woods how the military programs and education worked out for him.

BTW, back in WWII time my grandfather didn't even get to finish his education before being carted off to war. He did that later on his own terms, but he certainly wasn't a fan of military bribing men to sign up with offers of education in exchange for their lives.

In the interest of fairness the military has worked out wonderfully for many people, in terms of education and career etc... One of my good friends from medical school was in the Navy as a pilot, and then went to Medical School for free (actually got paid while in Medical School). I rotated at the Naval Medical Center in San Diego back in medical school and everyone who I worked with thought it was an amazing opportunity (I actually felt jealous for a little while since they were getting paid while getting free tuition).

I'm not saying it hasn't also been bad for a lot of people. There are stories on both sides.

It can't be. They know a mentally ill vet that is on drugs so the military is bad. News flash if you go in the military mentally off you gonna come out mentally off.

Sure I understand that. But at the same time, I find the concept of a person brushing aside someone that is desperate for work, or wanting to better themselves in a trade or education as giving them a quick fix of ''oh join the military and they'll take care of it'' as not the right solution. Compound that with the fact that we have people complaining that no one should be paying for anyone else's education (and thus the taxpayers pay for the education + the salary of the solider) it seems a smidge hypocritical. I feel that some people sign up to the military not because they want to but because they are desperate and have no other options available. Many people who come out of the military as you well know are forever damaged never receive any support and are tossed away.. forgotten. Suddenly they are now ''mentally ill'', or addicted to drugs, or homeless, maybe they have PTSD, are abusive, and instead of leading a productive life cause real damage to themselves and others. By that time, it's ''all their fault'' or they ''had something wrong with them to begin with''.

Sorry but if you're implying that mental illness cannnot develop because of experiences in the military, that is completely false.

Because I already am. By the time it ever got here (free education), it would be too late for me.

Don't get me wrong, I am all about federal student aid in the form of grants and scholarships. Work to earn one, good on you. And I think there should be some restraints put into play at universities and colleges that pay outlandish salaries and charge outrageous tuition rates. But to just hand over an education for free? What would that mean for the job force in 5-10 years? Having a degree would become meaningless, as everyone would have one.

How do you feel about paying taxes in general ? For roads, wars, ssn, free public schools, throw a dart in any direction and pick

something. So why stop at something so vital as a good education ? Today's young people will pay into the system to feed

your butt tomorrow, might as well make it a good education and job. So you don't mind feeding the Trump war machine

with your tax dollars ?

Education is good for the country and is good for the individual ....you included.....in the long haul.

It is extremely shortsighted of you to have an attitude of I payed for mine why pay for everyone else ?

You don't have the vision of what America could be if people here had access to top notch education either free or

(very) capped. It is an embarrassment to be so low on the world list as far as education is concerned.

Hmm makes sense. Child labor is already probably used to make his clothing, so it stands to reason we should put the little grubby kids to work instead of seeking handouts from their parents.

Child labor is definitely still in practice in many parts of the world and was even still in practice in the US into the early 20th century.

Paying taxes is the price of living in our great country. Kids (and their "I want to be entitled" parents) who want to sit back and just let the education fall in their laps is not OK, in my opinion.

There is no such thing as a "Trump war machine", so stop making stuff up to sound cool.

Education isn't all it's cracked up to be. While I think it is better to have it and not need it (some jobs require A degree, but they don't care WHAT degree it is, just that you stuck with it and got one), my degree has never once helped me land a job (yet). And as I said elsewhere, if everyone has a degree because they are all suckling off the Gubmint teat for free, the the value of said degree will diminish even more than it already has.

How is it shortsighted of me to expect others to work hard to achieve their education as I did? Let me guess... Now that I "got mine", you want some of what I have too? Please tell me you are not one of those liberals...

I also said (more than once, if you were paying attention) that I am all for capping current education costs. It's ridiculous what someone has to pay for a degree today. It will take them years to pay off their massive student loan debt.

How do you feel about paying taxes in general ? For roads, wars, ssn, free public schools, throw a dart in any direction and pick

something. So why stop at something so vital as a good education ? Today's young people will pay into the system to feed
