I think the reason why people go directly to the forums is the site design. On the home page, you see new/recently posted questions and therefore new members just assume that's what they need to do as well. Maybe the wiki/guide part should be more prominent on the homepage?

I have to agree with you there. Most of the posts are panicky...which leads me to believe people here are generally panicky... and when you panic, you don't really have the patience to browse, search or read other experiences. Thus, the 1000000000000000 posts about, "WHAT DOES THIS MEAN????"

Random question but....why is it called Igor's List??

Good question. Maybe someone named Igor developed it? Back in 2014, that is all we talked about. In fact VJers would message each other to update their timeline so it would be more accurate. Now, many don't even complete a timeline.

Thanks guys. I was on VJ for months before we filed clicking every tab and reading everything. Reading ahead in the forums so I would know what to expect and learn what to do and not to do. I still have questions but for the most part I can find answers without making a post.

Yep, I'm here months ahead of actually filing too! I want to be as in-the-know as I can. After my husband's tourist visa was rejected, I felt really dumb for not being more aware of visa processes so now I'm here trying to become an expert about it.

Right! So much to know! I still look to the more senior members for help.

Maybe I've been on this site too long, but I see alot of repetitive questions and posts. I thought I'd put together some helpful tips for our new members.

1. :guides: Whether you are using a PC, laptop, tablet, or smart phone you can access the guides. Please read them and read them all. Most answers can be found there. http://www.visajourney.com/content/guides

2. Please use the wiki. This is an extra info page that also has very useful info. http://www.visajourney.com/wiki/index.php/Special:AllPages

3. Please use the search tool. Many times your question has already been asked and answered. You may be able to find it here.

4. Read your country portal and embassy info pages. Learn and research how your specific consulate works. http://www.visajourney.com/consulates/

5. :time: and fully complete your profile page! This is so helpful to those responding to your posts and to those working with your same type of visa or embassy. http://www.visajourney.com/timeline/ If all VJ members did this Igor's list would be a much more useful tool. http://www.visajourney.com/timeline/monthly_filers.php?cfl=

6. Please review the other helpful tabs: example forms, Visa FAQs, processing times, embassy reviews, etc. Again alot of helpful here too.

7. If you have followed 1-6 and your question still remains then by all means start a new topic in the appropriate forum. http://www.visajourney.com/forums/

Everyone here is very helpful and supportive!

Best of Luck! :luv:

 This should be pinned, nice job !
