Can Trump stop me from being with my future wife ?

Hello you all

I decided to start this new thread even if I imagine there should be people anxious about the same thing as well

My fiancée and me have been approved at the US embassy in Paris this Wednesday and I had the famous ( You should get your passport back in 10 days ) so we are currently waiting , on CEAC my case says ready and got updated already twice but we will see. Now we my fiancée and I decided of a date and we should have my wedding next year on May and my POE should be in March 2017 then

Now we all know that the US election are quickly coming and I was wondering if Trump could technically suspend ( or cancel ) all visas ( K1 visa in our case) or can we get denied when we will be waiting for the answer of AOS after the wedding. I know that all opinions are different but remember he said he would suspend immigration with "countries that are compromised with terrorism" which is then the case with France , my home country. Maybe we are just stressed again over something we cannot control but I'm super worried that things doesn't work out as we planned especially with all this time , money and investment for making our wedding the most wonderful day of our lives.

How can we be so sure , immigration is undoubtedly one of his favorite topic and as someone on VJ said once, he will leave a big impact on US immigration. Now perhaps it will be possible to make like this to work , he is the commander in chief, the one who could make things change , he is not afraid of that and he is determinated too.

Immigration is his favourite topic because that is what his preferred demographic want to hear about. I'd say he's using peoples distrust of anything 'unAmerican' to win votes.

Like just about every politician in history, if he does succeed then every one of his promises will be quickly forgotten.

I think one of my favourite quotes, supposedly of his, was something along the lines of "My family didn't come to this great country just to see immigrants take over"

This is probably what you're wondering about: the "extreme vetting" for immigrants, right?

It seems to be that there is already a kind of insane security check for certain countries/people (people from Muslim countries, skilled science workers, etc.) with AP taking up to a year or more for some....it's kind of absurd to imagine how it can get any worse. I don't even think most Americans are aware of how much scrutiny is already going on for legal immigrants/visa applicants. I guess more people would just end up getting denied under Trump's plan?

I guess he could try to dismantle the K-1 visa, though I haven't heard any details about that visa in particular. A lot of countries don't even have a "fiance" visa, they only have spouse visas. We'll just have to wait and see what happens.

I'm really going to take a look at the links provided above

I was just wondering if it was in his power to just say , look all people coming in the US with a visa ( or even people travelling to the US under the VWP) or a specific category can be sent back to their country because he decided of a new regulation of visa. To me it looks totally possible but I can be wrong. Especially since when i'm moving with her , Trump will be at the White House for a while already. Even if he doesn't touch visa in the next coming months, the AOS could be a problem later down the road. How about he decide a new policy about who can be granted permanent resident through marriage (or else ) , nothing is really clear and we live in a world full of doubts and now we will live with a sword of damocles hanging over our head and we never know when an eventual separation may occurs, this is horrible.

Babe, he's not going to win. Her Imperial Majesty the Killbot3000 Hillary Clinton is going to be in office and you'll be fine. Many of the things you worry about cannot be done without the approval of Congress, and there would be numerous legal challenges as well to any massive sea change in our immigration policies that would tie any putative restrictions up in litigation for lengthy periods. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that you're also the "type" of immigrant Trump doesn't have a problem with.

Most of us are in the same boat, Durant200. Someone was posting a few days ago about about Russians not getting visas because of the Syrian war....a lot of things are unclear and uncertain for many people right now.

I'm hoping Congress won't give in to Trump's pressures if he were elected, hopefully even in the event of a Trump presidency, the focus would be in illegal immigrants, not legal ones who have done nothing wrong and are legitimate family members. Let's just hope for the best but expect the worse, in any case.

The new president won't take office until January. In addition to separation of power, acts of congress, limitations of the president and everything said above. But you already had your interview and I bet you'll be in the US before January.

One of the best lines, I thought, in the democratic convention was something in Obama's speech that was something to the effect of "We don't have kings in America. We don't look to be ruled."

One person having unilateral power to do as they please like sending people away at the border? that's a dictatorship, not our democracy.

"he's not going to win" I wish i was sure of this , I have never been so interested in election ever before. I believe that even if he is elected he will not completely stop immigration totally unless he decides which country can be eligible for a visa. Do you personally trust online polls such as CNN , or Realclearpolitics ? Of course through the last months Clinton seemed to have an advantage on Trump , but how can we perceive polls are accurate ? How to be sure that a majority of trump or clinton are participating to the vote ? I believe Trump is not the best candidate , when he talks about legal immigration , he is talking about deciding whether yes or no we wiil be able to be with our loved ones , our future family. I admire how he wants to put American citizens first ( Jobs for instance ).

A lot of establishment Republicans hate Trump. Don't assume that Congress will just immediately be on his side.

He cannot cut off Congress from the law-making/enforcing process. That would be grounds for impeachment and against constitutional law. Thank God that the US is not Putin's Russia.
