We went to SSA this morning for the card and she said his EAD is not valid and a card can not be issued. I asked if this was because it is too soon and she said "I don't know these things wait four weeks before calling to see if it can be processed" When I asked if it would be automatic sent or I had to come back she gave me a look that that said...shut up you idiot...but only said I have no information about that if you do not hear anything call in 4 weeks. No I am in a panic because I am hoping something else is not wrong. I know some people have said they had to wait but his card was approved 4/28 and its almost two months later. Anyone else have this? On a good note we were in and out in 10 minutes when I expected a full day affair.

They had a problem printing card at the end of April. I would suggest you call them and inquiry if the card was already printed and would put on a service request. I believe a lot of people here had their cards delivery messed up because of this problem.

SSA staff have been terrible on the phone and in person. Cant provide any information regarding process. EAD was approved on the 1st. Went in with the card on the 8th. Just need a printout with the numbers for my background check. Officer says my status has not been verified by DHS/INS. Its so frustrating, all the wait.

Maybe a bit of a dumb question i dont know...

So i got my SSC on my K1, so it has the "only for work with..."

So to get that removed now that i have my greencard, will i have to return my old card?

And if i have to give them the SSC, can i still start a job with just having the number?

Because i want to get a job asap, so i need to know if i can change my card now, or i have to wait until i started working

Hi! I went to change my name on SSN after I got my EAD just a couple of days I got the card. They said was too new and they could not find it in the electronic files. They gave me a letter that will take between 4-6 weeks. After 3 weeks came a letter home that they were able to verify everything , and I wil have my new SSN card in 1-2 weeks. came in a couple of days after that letter. So be patience, they need to verify with uscis all your info and takes time to uscis send them the approval. That's what a lady from ssn local office told me so even if they go through your application still have to wait for other approvals from uscis .

Never mind, I misread it and thought you were talking about the ead card. The Ss card can take several weeks, if it wasn't requested on passport name and as soon as the person got here. Sorry

Thanks...We did eventually get the EAD. Its the social security card now that is on hold. I'm hoping it's no big deal. I was just worried because she said the ead is not valid. And wouldn't confirm if that was because it is too new to be in the system yet or if there was yet another screw up with uscis and the ead card.

Yeah but you need SSN for a background check. So it kinda defeats the purpose.

Only for those jobs that require a background check - not all do. Some employers are able to start you off, with proof that you'll have one soon.

Do you need to get the "valid only for work with..." removed right now??

I would suggest you just do that later. At your leisure. You have the authorisation you need. So why go to the trouble and risk not having your card in your hand?

Get job. Work. Smile.

Change your SSC when you have nothing better to do in a few months time.

I received my EAD card today! It was approved on May 14 and I received it on June 14, so it took just over 30 days.

Now the long wait for the GC interview. San Francisco is processing cases from September 2015 at the moment...

Happy I can start working now :)

Hope everyone else gets their EAD soon.

Hey, for those people who are awaiting the SSN review of their status by DHS. you can check it by going to SAVE case status website. https://save.uscis.gov/casecheck/... Enter your Alien Reg. Number, Date of Birth and click check status. It should tell you if its been reviewed and returned.
