I realize people have 90 days to tie the knot once K1 Visa is approved.

With that being said...how long do you expect to wait until moving and using K1 to be with your Fiancé once visa is approved? A few days, weeks, months? Just curious!?

Just to correct you, you have 90 days to get married after you enter the USA with the K1 visa, not 90 days after it is approved.

You usually have 6 months to use the visa/ travel to the USA after it is approved, but it may be less if you had your medical a long time before the interview.

hi

ditto, the 90 days start once you enter the US to marry

you will have an expiration date on your passport, you can travel anytime before the visa expires

I realize you have 6 months from the date of the medical to enter the United States and then 90 days to get married once you enter America on your K1 Visa.

My question for the forum is how long do you anticipate it taking to move to the United States after receiving your K1 visa? 1 week? 1 month? 3 months?

Just curious if majority of people plan to move immediately once receiving the Visa or move closer to the 6 month allowance??

I think you are going to get every answer with this question. In my fiance's case she moved five and a half months into the K1 validity. I have heard many people say they moved almost immediately upon receiving the visa. It really depends on how long it takes someone to wrap up their lives in their home country.

Good Luck!

It all depends on what you need to do before you move: quit your job, sell or cancel lease on your home, packing etc. Some move the day after they receive their visa, some wait few months. It all depends on your planning.

Ok. Thanks for the quick response! Was your fiancé/wife quite stressed out about starting a new life in a foreign country and leaving everything she knows behind? I would imagine those are normal feelings? Or maybe not?

They are :) I'm really looking forward to be with my man and start our life together but yeah at the same time I feel like your fiancée :) Luckily I have good support from my fiancé.

There will always be a certain amount of homesickness when someone moves to a new country. It's important to be understanding and patient. These are feelings you can't just control when your world is suddenly different. Even for someone from an english speaking country (even Canada!) it can take YEARS for these feelings to go away for someone to feel at home in a new country. So yes, you'll need the patience of a saint on occasion to help. Keeping active and trying new things together tends to help. But also try to visit their home country or have family visit too.

If you read people's timelines you'll see when people crossed into the US.

You should read up on culture shock so both you and the fiancee moving will know what to expect.

That's a fun question. The way we planned it, my fiance is going to schedule her flight for a few days after the visa is in hand - about a month away from now. She'll come from the Philippines with only a suitcase of clothes; everything else just stays in the hands of family. I guess that's the benefit of not being tied down to too many things over there. We've been waiting for this for eight years and can barely wait to begin our life together.
