We are applying for my mother & father-in-law and are in the process of writing the invitation letter.

Any good letter temples that you all know that can help us?

10/20/2014 Received notice letter (NOA 1)
3/19/2013 Delay Notice: Case sent from Vermont to Texas
5/14/2014 I-130 approved via email (NOA 2)
5/28/2014 Case @ NVC

NVC: (179 Days) 5 mo & 26 days
6/18/2014 Case number assigned
7/2/2014 AOS & IV bill generated
7/3/2014 AOS & IV bill paid
7/7/2014 AOS & IV bill cleared

True.. that quote is the stock, boilerplate info on an official US govt website. However, in real life instances, there are deviations from the norm in select adjudications.

No invitation or sponsorship needed. They apply on their own merits and show strong ties to home.

Well we want to still write a letter saying that we can support them financially just in case what they present financially isn't enough.

Sounds like they have issues but if you want to send them a letter it is your call.

there is no sponsorship for a visitor visa. Period. An invitation letter means NOTHING. They must apply and be approved on their own merits and their merits alone. You have nothing to do with their visa.

Invitation letters are really a thing of other countries, not the US. In fact, your statement about supporting them is one of the key reasons for denying such visits. The visitor has to be able to support themselves and rely on no-one here to do so. More likely your letter will hurt their application, more than help it. Read the guides. Strong ties to their home country, financial means to support themselves etc.
