Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump jokeS that he wouldn't lose support for his campaign even if he shot people "in the middle of Fifth Avenue." (Reuters)

SIOUX CENTER, Iowa -- Donald Trump says his supporters are supremely devoted to him. But would they support him if he shot someone?

"They say I have the most loyal people -- did you ever see that? -- where I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, and I wouldn't lose any voters," Trump said, illustrating his point by pulling his fingers into a gun shape. "Okay? It's like incredible."

The crowd laughed and clapped, and someone in the audience shouted out love for the candidate.

"We love you, too, man," Trump said.

Trump's comment came during a campaign rally Saturday at Dordt College in northwest Iowa. The 1,500-seat theater completely filled, hundreds more watched his speech from an overflow room.

Trump devoted a chunk of his nearly 70-minute-long speech to ripping the National Review, a conservative magazine that filled its latest edition with 22 essays from conservative thought leaders who do not want Trump to become the nominee.

I've said the same kind of thing in the past: x politician would still be supported by their base even if they had a hobby of drowning cats. It's the blind partisanship. All politicians know it, but few will speak so candidly and, frankly, honestly about how stupid their base is. In a roundabout way Trump is calling his supporters fools.

That's exactly what he's doing

Though he's doing well in the blue states where it doesn't matter, I believe he's in for some humility in the South. I'm not hearing about a lot of base support there.

Trump just gets better and better at sucking up all the attention..

Cruz mad a comment where he said "I'm a Christian first, An American Second, a Conservative third, an a Republic fourth" Basically saying he is also mad about Republican leadership...

The reporter plays that comment for Trump and says "That's who he is, who is Donald Trump"

Trump says "So where does he put Family? Shouldn't his Family be in there somewhere? I think he messed up there... Listen I would be a great president, I would never have let these Syrian Refugees in ......"

Never even came CLOSE to answering the question and the CNN reporter never got around to asking about it again because Trump made so many new gems for him to cling..

it's a new spin on 'shock and awe' drop a bomb for the media to play hot potato with for a news cycle and on to the next one. besides building a wall and tracking muslims, i have zero idea what trump's proposed policies are.

Though he's doing well in the blue states where it doesn't matter, I believe he's in for some humility in the South. I'm not hearing about a lot of base support there.

I know some republicans and not one of them likes Trump. However, I also know a few from the deep south and their hatred for hillary is tangible. If you look at them in the right light, from the right angle, you can actually see their hatred take a physical form. Anything to not get Hillary in office will be okay for them.

I, like everyone else, seems to suck at predicting trump. His stunt with the debate seems like a bad idea to me. He's dead heat neck and neck with Cruz and I don't think he wants to be hit by Cruz without being able to return the blows. But, who knows. It's trump and the rules don't apply.

i have zero idea what trump's proposed policies are.

You can look them up on his site, but many of his views change from year to year, so it's truly hard to pin down what he really believes about anything.
