Someone please correct me if I am wrong in regards of Adjustment of Status

My wife and I are in the U.S. I am a U.S. citizen she is Canadian. We have only been here for one week. What would be the first document we send away? Would it be the "Adjustment of status". If someone could even tell me the exact steps that would be greatly appreciated

Right filing for AOS after one week could cause extra scrutiny. You just said you're looking at filing for an adjustment of status

You can look up the form fees yourself. All fees are listed where you download the forms from the USCIS website.

Do you know what the total cost of the AOS would be? I was told 4,000.....

I-130 is $420 and I-485 is $1070 for a total of $1490. There's also the cost of the medical which depends on the civil surgeon you choose.

That explains it. The lawyer charges their fees on top of expenses for filing

File for AoS if you wish by following the guide linked above. The 30/60/90 day rule is a fallacy; it makes no difference how long you wait to file.

If she is just visiting, I suggest you start by filing for CR-1 (see guidelines elsewhere on this site). She can stay with you as long as her passport (visitor) stamp allows her, and then go back to Canada for her interview etc. She probably also has a job there she needs to finish up before she moves permanently? If you were to file for AOS while she is only visiting you, she may not leave until AP is approved, and will potentially have huge issues coming back if she were to do so.
