The first weeks getting to grips with how unfair this process is was hard.

You could live in a country that does not allow foreign immigration and permanent residence. That's fair to everyone.

Yea I agree. Thanks! In the mean time I think I will type up a letter to expedite explaining the circumstances because we need it at least by December or either they will be sending it to another embassy and I do not need them to lose anything because they have to transfer the packet. I will not plan anything unless I'm sure of when we will get the approval.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

And pray, how many democratic countries are there that do that? The US is simply one of those countries that makes its residents jump through a ridiculous number of hoops to reunite their families. There are other that do that too. And their are plenty more with a more efficient approach.

If anything, I am willing to give them credit for allowing a fiance route because that is what we prefer to do - but the CR-1/IR-1 route is pretty archaic with not allowing married couples to live in the country of their choosing together in a reasonable (for me that means 3 months) time frame.

We are submitting our Petition on tomorrow. I am considering a december wedding and my fiancé is in England as well. I really hope that they approve us by then. Or at least October or November. What do you all think?

I'm confused - your timeline inidcates you were approved on January 6, 2014 and the file left NVC on January 16 but you say you are about to file, file what?

Well said, well said. Personally I have long since grown tired of such arguments as "it's way worse in other countries, not even permitted". This is America dag-nabbit!

Personally I recall feeling quite disillusioned with our process towards the beginning of our engagement. That was because Elena's mother knew a woman who married a man from Germany. All they had to do was get married (in Russia), go to the local embassy, file the documents and then they went home together. Elena's mother couldn't understand why we weren't able to do the same. Frustrating.

Ok course we do have the DCF thing, but unfortunately the rules don't allow those of us who live stateside to utilize it. There was a day and age when you could, but that was discontinued long ago now.

But I digress.

9/8/14 - I129F petition sent to the USCIS lockbox via USPS

5/8/15 - Arrived at the NVC (9 days)

5/15/15 - Electronic version arrived at the embassy (2 days)

And pray, how many democratic countries are there that do that?

Don't make the set smaller.....all countries......how many allow foreign immigration and residence?

The US is simply one of those countries that makes its residents jump through a ridiculous number of hoops to reunite their families.

Please do tell of some of the easy procedures of those other countries? With the K-1, there is no family....yet.

There are other that do that too. And their are plenty more with a more efficient approach.

But are those countries one that everyone in the world would love to move to?

And I'm not talking just because the US has seedless watermelons and heated showers in the state park campgrounds.

If anything, I am willing to give them credit for allowing a fiance route because that is what we prefer to do - but the CR-1/IR-1 route is pretty archaic with not allowing married couples to live in the country of their choosing together in a reasonable (for me that means 3 months) time frame.

One year may be reasonable to USCIS.....considering the number of petitions they have to wade through.....what everyone keeps on missing is this simple fact.......For a K-1 petition, it takes on average 15 minutes to adjucate the petition and issue the NOA2......so after waiting 5-10 months, it only takes 15 minutes.......so do the math, please do the math, how many petitions could be ahead of yours if it only take 15 minutes each?

Answer.....yes a lot......a lot of people are trying to enter the US, at the same time as you. A lot.

We had to withdraw because he couldn't leave school for the 90days advance parole. We had to submit a withdrawal. The saddest day ever! So he finishes in October and he has been give the opportunity to finish in July but since approvals are given slowly he might as finish at his regular time.

How is that a valid excuse?

There are roughly 30000 K1 petitions per year. They make up a single digit percentage of all the immigration...

I am not saying they should get priority, far from it, just that the entire system is ridiculously inefficient and needlessly long.

Yea I understand. But nothing beats a failure but a try. I'm willing to give it a try and if they turn me down I will not have that what if thought going through my head.

What I don't understand is how Philippines are getting expedited treatment and we all pay the same fee! There has got to be some common ground. They are being approved left and right. It's not fair.

Also, I know they say it doesn't matter. But do you really think that if a lawyer or professional preparerer prepared your application you have a quicker shot? I'm beginning to think that's how they wean people out. So the couples who had theirs reviewed by professionals get first priority. However, we'll never know...

The USCIS doesn't give a Rat's behind if you have a lawyer or not. They don't review them before they get assigned to an officer. They don't have that kind of time. The TSC is as slow as molasses. I would plan on a longer wait now that the Obama garbage starts accepting applications on February 18th. My I-130 got pushed aside when the DACA garbage originally started. I don't want to sound negative, but I lived through it and I speak from experience. You have no idea how many applications are gonna come in after February 18th.

Don't make any plans for a big wedding until you have the visa in your hand. The USCIS doesn't care if you lose money because you are planning a wedding before your visa is approved.

Maybe get married by a judge so you can satisfy the K1 conditions and then plan a huge wedding with all the trimmings when you know you can set a solid date.

Philippines are expedited due to a typhoon that has causes (and is still causing) great devastation in the country. This is one of the criteria for your case being expedited...
