It's not normally expensive, I read somewhere like 7% for Canada?, not sure how accurate that is. IMHO the annoying part is asking your spouse/fiance what the dollar value of the ring is.

I think if you spend a certain number of days in America, maybe 2, there is a certain amount you can bring back without tax, I think that amount maybe higher if the ring was made in the NAFTA zone. I'm no expert in this though.

My personal opinion: I do not wear my engagement ring because I sick amd tired of explaining to nosy people where my fiancé is and how hard it is.

I only have a small idea of what it was, but I did not pick out either ring. I'm super happy about what he picked out (with the help of his best friend.) They go together and almost no one knows they're not a set. All i said was multiple diamonds and white gold.

Its nice to hear that you found ones that go together that aren't a set, my engagement ring wasn't part of an engagement/wedding band comb as I'm keen for our wedding bands to match one and other more than the two rings on my hand being a match. Glad to hear it's achievable!

There's an exemption in Canada, you have to fill a form saying the item is going to be getting out of the country and nothing to pay http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/publications/dm-md/d2/d2-1-3-eng.html

I've used a similar program to bring merchandise from Europe, fly to Canada, drive to the US.

My husband brought my ring into Canada, I'll have to ask if he declared it. Oh, and I did wear my ring - didn't get much questions about immigration or my relationship though.

No, that's not correct. It says as much on that page: subject to a refundable security deposit.

Don't get me wrong. It isn't like we can't afford a deposit or any duties. We just can't be bothered dealing with more paperwork or fees.

Not wearing my ring for a few weeks at a time isn't a huge deal. Does it suck? Sure. But there's more to our relationship than a ring.

I don't wear the ring while at home because I do a lot of cleaning and I don't want it to get ruined. I only wear it when I'm going out to show the world I'm engaged. My fiancé does the same, doesn't wear it at home, just when he goes out.

We both wear our engagement rings. Only time I am not wearing mine apart from when I'm sleeping is when I am at work because I work in a hospital and is not allowed to wear rings for hygienic reasons.

I wear my engagement ring every day. If someone asks me a question about my fiancé, I just say the truth. I learned not to care about people's opinion. I love my man and that's the only thing that matter to me.
