i did not buy an engagement ring for my husband. LOL He would have looked at me like I was crazy. He loves his wedding ring but refused to let me buy something expensive (so I found an expensive one for cheap! YAY Amazon!)

My personal opinion: I do not wear my engagement ring because I sick amd tired of explaining to nosy people where my fiancé is and how hard it is.

LOL My husband would never have wanted an engagement ring. His wedding ring is the only piece of jewelry he owns. He has 1 nice watch too that I bought him that he never wears. But many men like lots of bling.

When I'm in Spokane, I wear it 24/7. We didn't want to pay import fees on it, so I leave it in the U.S. when I come back to Canada.

It sucks but so do a lot of things about this process.

Yeah, you'd think, eh? I wish I could use the copy of my packet (that I carry with me every time I cross the border) to prove I'm not keeping it in Canada because I ain't sticking around.

Someone else in the Canada forum ran into that. She filled out some form and then they let her go since she wasn't keeping the ring in Canada. I wish I could remember it better so I could find it.

I think I saw that when I was search for stories about engagements rings.

My fiance is not a risk taker like me, so I acquiesce and leave it with him. It isn't a hill to die on, you know?

Hmm I didn't even know about that. I just wore my ring ever since we were engaged and that was that. Never had an issue. That sucks i would be so sad to leave my ring behind. What could they ask that would force you to pay import fees.

My hubs claimed the engagement ring and the wedding ring when he came up (separate occasions.) Granted they're not the most expensive rings, so the CBSA officer didn't even charge him the duty on them.

It's not normally expensive, I read somewhere like 7% for Canada?, not sure how accurate that is. IMHO the annoying part is asking your spouse/fiance what the dollar value of the ring is.
