5 Things I've Learnt About the US Immigration Process

Nice post!

I don't think it's so bad for trees. A normal case shouldn't be more than like 20 pages, which is more than I print in a week. But I support postal mail and paper books, so... there you are. Keep in mind that a lot of people don't really know how to use computers that well still; someone on here was just saying they didn't know how to upload photos online. Also, others don't know how reverse image search works, and they have posted Italian models or photos of another persons dating profile and told people here they were their wives.

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

$88 for Adjustment of Status, wrong, sorry. it's called the Affadavit of Support.

Fiancé Visas cost even more. wrong. perhaps you are confusing the additional cost to get a greencard, after the K-1 visa is invalidated at the POE?

wrapping up on It’s Bad News For Trees section -

I would include 3 or 4 sentences about how all of the casefile gets scanned into the SAFEFILE system at NVC and how the Consular IV Unit can see it all prior to casefile shipment, then a final paragraph noting that the immigrant visa holder has become a highly paid courier for the Department of HomeLand Security, hand-carrying a sealed envelope that contains the entire casefile, trees included, courier fee paid by you or your spouse.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

Fair enough on my first mistake. The extra cost after POE was what I was referring to with regards to K1 costing more.

That's a fair point but most people are pretty computer literate now. I also support postal mail and paper books but it just seems like there's a lot of unnecessary extra paper being used, for example the medical questionnaire you fill out before the medical then they hand you a similar one when you get there! There's a lot that could be streamlined. I'd love to see a post where someone was caught out claiming to date an Italian model

What's really wasteful is people who print out 100s of pages of chats or more and send them all around :)

The couple who sent USCIS their "intimate video" were just helping the environment

Cute blog. I never found it as stressful as people carry on about. Never once did I doubt approval. Waiting around wondering when the next thing will happen gets old, but failure was not an option.

It is more streamlined and tree friendly believe it or not.

2008 - our K1 time

g325A biographical form submitted in quadruplicate. Yep 4 pages each in the petition packet.

One form was notarized...either petition or affidavit of support...I forgot.

"Packet 3" instructions was indeed a packet of about 15 pages from the embassy

"Packet 4" about 8 more pages

Forms to the embassy were mailed, not submitted online. About about 10 pages because some were duplicate.

The Readiness for interview was an actual multiple page checklist (received in Packet 3) that you actually ticked off and mailed. Now online submission, no items to check off.

It's getting a little better on the paper part.

Congratulations and good luck to you in the USA.

Agreed. My whole AOS package fit neatly into the USPS Express Padded envelope. Hopefully everything will be done online.

Very well put Hotter Otter. It will definitely make or break your relationship and sadly many relationships end up going overboard from waiting forever and spending more money than some even have. But yes well worth it in the end.

B.T.W. I like the little piece you have by The Smiths there at the bottom - great band!
