The family of 19-year-old Dante Williams, shot while attempting to rob a Waffle House in South Carolina, say that Williams didn’t have to die and was a “respectable boy.”

The incident, caught on security cameras, shows Williams and Jawan Craig enter the Spartanburg Waffle House, point a gun at the cashier, and demand the cash in the register.

Justin Harrison, a concealed carry permit holder, was sitting at the bar area. “They’re yelling ‘everybody get down, get down’ and I’m not getting on the floor. I am not going to be a victim,” Harrison recalls.

After Harrison refuses to get down, Williams starts to approach him but Harrison stands up and fires multiple shots at Williams. Harrison then turns to Craig who tries to wrestle the gun away but is unable to and ends up fleeing. Police later arrested him and charged him with armed robbery.

“This was the only time. If I am going to fight it was that one time. He was approaching me and I saw that as him engaging me,” Harrison says.

....

Of course, Williams’ cousin Tamika McSwain disagrees. “I understand he felt threatened by the situation but he said the gun was pointed at him so he fired. In fact, [Williams] was walking out,” says McSwain.

Recalling her time with Williams, she says “he was always sharp, always goofy, loved to dance, he was a respectable boy.”

It happens down here now and again. Guess they think they are the only ones armed and are invincible. I was thining about this Monday taking my wife to the range and let her refamilarize herself with her handgun.

I guess people who use a gun to commit a crime never think that they may get shot in the process? It really sucks to be a criminal when your victims are armed. A needless loss of a young life due to the poor judgement he used in attempting to rob someone at gunpoint.

I don't normally side with gun aficionados, and see some problems with the actions of the man who decided the waffle house was where he would 'take a stand' but on the other hand, when you go out committing armed robbery, you are first off not a respectable human being, and secondly placing yourself is a situation where getting shot is a distinct possibility.

The gentleman got lucky that his shots, and the robbers potentially returned fire didn't kill or injure others in the restaurant. The moral of this story is merely some morons are luckier than other morons, and the robber moron lost in this instance.

Well, I bet he will think twice before he tries to rob a place at gunpoint again, well never mind, he's dead.

That video shows why the right to bear arms is so important. .. lay on the floor and everyone could be dead. No doubt that he thanks his god that he did not have to rely on a smart gun when he needed it most. Just loved how they showed the perp in his graduation photo.... such a good boy never did anything like this ever....he never was going to hurt anyone, Just having a little fun.Just trying to make a little pocket money. .... Point a loaded gun in a strangers face ...... he died surprised you think.

Not what I said, nor what I meant. Bending reality to fit your preconceived misunderstood reality apparently is your mantra.
