DS260 asks for ALL addresses since the age of 16. This basically includes anywhere you have received mail, went to school for a semester - they ask for all addresses. The dates have to align and go back to the age of 16 or it will not let you continue to the next page.

It was a real pain for us - my husband had 19 previous addresses....total nightmare tracking all of that information down. Also, they must be added in order from most recent back to age 16 - there is no way to re-order the list in case you missed one. I recommend having them all written down in detail before you begin entering them into the system. Learned that the hard way blink.png I thought I had them all, but somehow one was missed and I had to reenter a lot of information. oops!

Yes the ds260 is a huge pain in the a$$! My hubby has had lots of jobs and it took me 3 days to fill it out. I thought I had all the info also until I started the form! Phew! I'm just glad its over!

Dear Saylin and VJ members,

I am new to this forum and I have a question:

When i filed I-130 for my wife, I also submitted G325A for both of us. We got I-130 approval also. But now i realized in my wife's(Beneficiary) G-325A, she made a mistake while adding Applicant's residence last 5 years. She forgot to add one address in that section. Will that be a problem while filling out DS-260 in the NVC stage or during the interview?

NOA1:May 28, 2013

NOA2 (TSC): January 21, 2014

Received at NVC: February 17, 2014

Hi

Got two checklists last night. Think the first was a false one as it was requesting documents to be sent.

However the second one baffles me !! It says:

In Part 6. Sponsor's Income and Employment, please correct the following...
[x] Items 13.a.1. The income you enter must match the total (gross) income reported on your most recent Federal
income tax return. If you filed Form 1040EZ, use the adjusted gross income instead.
Cannot understand this as my husband entered the amount on the 1040 and put the same amount in question 13.a.1. Think my husband will have to call them when he finisheds work :(

01/17/2013 I-130 sent to the USCIS Lockbox Chicago

Update from our end: I called NVC this morning to inquire about Case Number and it was indeed uploaded! So, from Feb 6 date when they received our file from USCIS to March 15 (or probably March 14), I count 5 weeks elapsed or 25 business days, in line with the quote that NVC operators provide of 20-30 business days. Saylin, please update spreadsheet.

Hi guys,

I have a question about filing status for tax return. On W2 form it was saying to file as single if my spouse doesn't have alien registration number or SSN or if she doesn't live in USA. Due to that I filed it as single but per Saylin's post a married person must file as married irrespective of anything and filing as single is fraud. For me filing as single is not fraud because the W2 form from IRS says to do so for a person whose spouse doesn't have alien registration number or SSN and if she never been in USA. For petitioners whose spouse lives in Mexico or Canada, filing as married make sense because the IRS law says to do so. I will appreciate if you can help me on this sensitive issues. I am also planning to contact local IRS office. Thanks!

If you're married, you have to file your taxes as Married. You've got the choice to pick "Married Filing Separately" or "Married Filing Jointly."

The W2 form is the form you fill out with your employer that tells your employer how much to 'withhold' out of your paycheck to send on to the government every time you're paid, to cover your income taxes for the year. From a Forbes article on 'withholding:'

"The point of the form W-4 is to figure out how many allowances to claim for purposes of your federal income tax withholding. The general rule is that the more allowances you claim, the less withholding you’ll have taken out of your paycheck. If you claim zero, you’ll have the maximum amount taken out. If you claim a large number, you’ll have less taken out. If you do it right, you won’t owe or be owed: the absolute best scenario from a tax planning standpoint is to have your tax liability (or refund) at the end of the year be as close to zero as possible.

If you’re married, you generally add “1″ when figuring your allowances. But since your spouse is out of the country and you won't be adding her income to yours, you can still put "0" and have the correct amount taken out.

Here's where I got the info: http://www.forbes.com/sites/kellyphillipserb/2012/01/26/ask-the-taxgirl-form-w-2-and-withholding/

I too got this checklist. I just called them and a really nice guy helped me after I explained why I was confused (the amount on my Line 22 was actually a negative number for me because of some tax credits. I thought surely they wouldn't want a negative number! So I had put the wrong amount).

Please call them, and ask the same question. They will probably tell you to put whatever is on your husband's 1040 tax return on Line 22. What you fill in on your I-864 has to match that amount exactly. But do call to clarify and get it right. You don't want another checklist!

Is the joint sponsor providing an I-864 ot I-864a. If they are combining income with the petitioner using an I-864a (not recommended) you must use some method to show they are in the same house and they are related.

If the joint sponsor is providing an I-864 then you do not need to do this as a joint sponsor does not need to be a family member.

Thank you for recommendation.
