I received the case receipt number a few days ago and checked the timeline today. Our application is currently at the Texas Service center for Initial Review. The timeline is estimating 5 months. Does this mean it might stay at the Texas Service Center for 5 months before being forwarded to a National Processing Center, or is this the actual estimate for how long the process might take to be approved. Or is this an estimate of how long it might be before my fiancee is called for her interview at the embassy in Malaysia?

Thanks much for your answers.

The 5 months is the average processing time to receive an approval on your I-129f petition. This does not include the time it takes to process at the NVC, nor how long it will take to receive an interview.

5 months is the processing estimate after which, if you haven't been approved yet, you can request that your case get looked at to see why it hasn't been approved yet. It doesn't mean it will take 5 months to process. Most likely it will be less, but it can also be more. It's always a complete unknown. This applies to approving the I-129F petition only. After that there's NVC and the embassy stage to consider.

Take a look at the Guides on the top of page as well as Igor's list (on the Timelines link) - they'll help you get an idea of the timings involved.

The K1 journey:                                                                                                                             The AOS journey:

11/09/2013 - I-129F Packet mailed to Dallas Lockbox                                                                                         06/22/2015 - AOS packet mailed to Chicago Lockbox

02/14/2014 - Case shipped to Embassy, where it waited for over a year at my request                                 11/07/2015 - AOS approved (EAD and AP had already been approved) - there was no interview

05/21/2015 - Interview - Approved

06/19/2015 - Wedding (L)

The ROC journey:

10/12/2017 - ROC packet mailed to VSC

01/21/2019 - ROC Approved - there was no interview

The N-400 journey:

02/16/2020 - N-400 application filed online

02/21/2020 - Paper NOA received in the mail

03/13/2020 - Biometrics

02/02/2021 - Interview & test - Approved

02/05/2021 - Oath Ceremony

I think you should be expecting between 8-10 months to finally getting your visa at hand if only you dont receive a RFE. Good luck

You should never ever make concrete plans until you have the visa in hand. You may get lucky and get the visa in time for your sept wedding, but be prepared to not get it in time and miss the sept wedding date.

5 months is the maximum period to receive NOA2. But each case is different ...Some people took them 1 month to get NOA2 and others 7 months. The total time until you get your visa in hand between 6 months to one year.
