I think the distance was worse for me. I had finished college, saved money to visit him for the first time in 2003, but after that could not visit him again. Too hard while trying to find a job after college and not being able to save up that money again. It would have been a lot easier if he had been closer to the US than on the opposite side of the world...plane tickets would have been much cheaper and it would take little time to go see him. And he couldn't visit here as his tourist visa was denied, and we had to wait until he came over on the K1.

I definitely missed him and the paper process was hard, but the hardest part was knowing how I couldn't really go visit him while waiting unless I wanted to go another $2000 into debt, which is something I just couldn't do.

And after he arrived here, and after sending in the AOS papers, it was not stressful due to the fact that we were at least together.

Distance from my love is definately my vote. The process is long and complicated and can have so many delays. But having the distance between us is so hard and I miss him terribly. With him by my side the papers can take as long as they want!

Patience... hands down. I'm a 'control freak', so to literally have my life's timeline in some processor's hands/judgment at the moment is making me crazy.

The distance thing is tough, but we manage... (I agree about Skype... I could kiss that developer on the lips!) only because we know it's short term... at least, we hope it is.

Where would we be without hope?

8-30-05 Met David at a restaurant in Germany

3-28-06 David 'officially' proposed

4-26-06 I-129F mailed

9-25-06 Interview: APPROVED!

7-2-07 Green card received

9-12-08 Filed for divorce

A great marriage is not when the "perfect couple" comes together.

It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.

Both. I hate being away from him. I think about him 24/7, no matter what I am doing. I have never been a patient person, Ryan will tell you that. LOL! And I sure didn't gain any patience from the visa process.

For me, distance.

For my wife patience.

I have plenty of work to keep me busy and my mind off the details of waiting. But my wife doesn't have a job and only stays at home to take care of her daughter (my new step-daughter, woo-hoo!).

2005-08-10: Met Natalia and fell in love. Too bad she didn't.

2006-01-13: Married. Biggest mistake of my life.

2006-03-07: Began the I-130/I-129F process.

2006-11-01: POE - JFK / Home in Austin!

2006-11-15: She hits me and continues pattern of abuse.

2006-11-16: I filed for divorce.

2006-11-17: Wife is served divorce papers; she and daughter return to Russia.

2007-12-08: She returns to Russia "for the holidays" (lied to lawyers and court).

[many more ups and downs during this time period - mostly downs]

2008-03-26: File for bankruptcy.

2008-07-30: Bankruptcy finalized.

2008-08-27: Divorce final. Started piecing my life back together.

(See my timeline for details.)

Disclaimer: I'm just a guy who married for love, but she didn't! All she wants is money and a green card.

It is interesting that the things in us that need the greatest change, are highlighted by our respose to our trials. If we have need of endurance and patience then when we are in a trial, these parts of us will cry out the loudest. I believe that the one that made us, knows exactly the parts of us that need to be made better and so he fashions for us, a trial that will let us see that part of us that He already knows about, that need changes

Then in that revelation of ourself we can cry out "Lord change this part of me, I dont like it." Half of all trials are about us beiong able to see what our God alrready knows.

I felt so desperate just like you did as I waited for Melinda to come and be here with me. There were days that I almost could not endure the pain. But that process showed me that I was not as dependant on the Lord as I thought I was. That I was looking to other people for my satisfaction instead of the God who loves me and desirers fellowsip with me.

I pray that you are able to endure your long wait and that it has a good effect on your life, that of causing endurance and patience in future trials.

Rob
