; I have my profile set to "PRIVATE", and only accept friend requests from people I actually do know...

Other than that... Just, whenever your profile isn't private, don't put in you are married or anything they may find suspicious :hehe:

Some US Consulates such as Dominican Republic do check the Applicant and Petitioner's Facebook page, I know somebody they had check her Facebook page because they asked her who was her best friends on FB.

One should be careful about comment, post, updates even friends on FB. I know people who got fired for posting comment about their jobs on FB.

to tell the truth if I was investigation any case, I would see if either had My Space or Facebook and who they corresponded with. Good way to judge. I have facebook and photos of Adil and trips to Morocco. Others are family and my race freinds from autocrossing. So, anyone who is sincere with marriage and actually in love does not need to worry.

does anyone know or have heard of any cases or stories where consulates have caught applicants or petitioners in lies thru facebook or myspace??? just curious...lol

You really think private is private to Homeland Security. HOw do you think they find chatter when they look for problems.

FBI and Homeland Security can get into any of our accounts online. My late husband was computer programer. anything you talk about on cell phone, on computer, on portable house phone is not private. and don't kid yourself on this.

Not even our bank accounts is private, uncle Sam can garnish our wages if necessary. To get privacy one has to go back and live like cave man used to under solid rocks with no use of any sort of electric devices.

When you go thru this process, you are under investigation. when i took my bank statements to my attorney, he said, "THEY PROBABLY ALREADY HAVE THEM." So, anyone who thinks they are not under a microscope it foolish. This is serious business bringing someone into the US. Id I was an investigator, I would check your chats, emails, cell phone activity, etc.

They match them from reading VJ. The beneficiary finds out when they get to their interview. For example, the VJ member will go to their interview and the Officer will say "Oh, so you're VJmembername."

Personally I have not heard of this, however as these types of sites are "public" type sites I would not be surprised if this information was leveraged.

; don't we have rights as a person regarding to our own privacy??

Isn't it against the law they will "hack" my profile, eventhough it's a private one?

Are the people that are doing background checks, like really relevant background checks (criminal records, etc), be so bored to see our "interesting" posts on Facebook, such as "I miss my fiance(e), and now I am going to cook and watch King of Queens"?!

Maybe these questions they ask, which is rare, are just tricky questions to see how the person they interview would react, same as: "what do you think of your fiance(e)'s previous marriage/when was your fiance(e) divorced and in fact your fiance(e) has NEVER been married before.

Just sayin'

; P.S. Maybe they found these stuff out by Google'ing the names and FB popped up and his/her profile was not set to "private".

Personally, I don't think they will "hack" a FB profile to see what that person has posted on his/her wall!! They have better things to do than that in a short period of time due all the other millions of petitions they have to go through.

this is not a fact so its irrelevant to OP's question. The US Government can search whomever they want to, they don't have to give you any given reason. You have no privacy my friend, take your license plates off of your vehicle and see what happens.

They don't have to hack your account. All information that travels over the internet in the United States is monitored by the US government. This began with the Communications Assistance for Law Enforcement Act of 1994, which was originally aimed at digital phone service providers, but has since been expanded to cover VoIP and broadband internet service providers. The government uses packet sniffing techniques to gather large amounts of data from the traffic on the internet. This data is analyzed by automated systems for indications of illegal activity. If the data travels over the internet then they can see it.

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), National Security Agency (NSA), and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) are developing advanced data analysis systems for analyzing data collected from social networking sites.

The bottom line is that if anyone accesses your FB profile over the internet then the US government may be monitoring, collecting, and analyzing that data. You have no guarantee of privacy when you transfer data over the internet, and you should not expect to have any privacy. If you don't want the government to have access to it, then don't post it on the internet - anywhere.
