; I have my profile set to "PRIVATE", and only accept friend requests from people I actually do know...

Other than that... Just, whenever your profile isn't private, don't put in you are married or anything they may find suspicious :hehe:

It doesn't matter if you set your profile as "private" or "public", your employer, Law enforcement Agencies, uncle Sam can gain access to it. Hackers can access it with ease. The only way to hide yourself is to live like men used to back in Stone Age.

; P.S. Maybe they found these stuff out by Google'ing the names and FB popped up and his/her profile was not set to "private".

Personally, I don't think they will "hack" a FB profile to see what that person has posted on his/her wall!! They have better things to do than that in a short period of time due all the other millions of petitions they have to go through.

exactly. if you think with the hundreds of thousands of petitions that are processed every year that they have the time and resources to hack everyone's facebook/email/phone records then you are sadly mistaken and probably overly paranoid. On the flip side it is standard practice for employers to do a quick google/facebook check on prospective employees and it takes little time at all. I would be very surprised if the VO's aren't checking these.

this is not a fact so its irrelevant to OP's question. The US Government can search whomever they want to, they don't have to give you any given reason. You have no privacy my friend, take your license plates off of your vehicle and see what happens.

First of all, I have the right to give my opinion on this forum whatsoever. Nobody knows exactly how this works.

That's why I put "personally, I think...", and that is a fact!

What most irrelevant is, is that you give your 2 cents by replying on my post. Do you give any facts about the question the OP asked? I guess not.

Atleast I kept it on topic.

this is my one cent

The thing about Facebook is that it can be accessed by anybody, the government.. ICBC, and etc.

If you have nothing to hide, then why is it an issue if your name gets searched?

Also, if someone put their Relationship Status to married but they aren't yet, they require you to give documents of divorces and stuff.. And if they find out you're lying and they stumble upon a divorce certificate that wasn't claimed, you're up poop creek without a paddle.. So I'm sure someone writing "Married" isn't as huge of a deal, as long as you can prove during your interview that it isn't.

They can raid my Facebook all they want, and my VJ, I'll give them email addresses/usernames and passwords.

That bit about hacking our Facebook is absurd.. They don't have the time to do that, definitely not. They do a quick search on google most likely.. Hacking? Waste of time.

However, ICBC doesn't hack but they get granted rights to see what possible victims of accidents write and comment on when it comes to Facebook, and this I know for a fact.. But back to the consular and interviews/petition processes.. Channah&Aaron is right and she has her opinions and is allowed to post them.. Don't rip on her. (My step-sister's name is Channah, she's a sweetheart)

Its an anecdote but..

A relative has a friend who he claims is involved in immigration fraud for profit to the USA, in fact the person has successfully performed 3-4 and is currently doing another. Both the USA citizen and the person he is currently getting through have public facebook profiles that have wrong relationship status AND romantic pictures of them with their "real" boyfriend and girlfriend with labels like love of my life etc. He showed me this laughing about how stupid they are, so it appears they do not do much checking
