Hello. I mailed out my i129-f K1 Fiance Visa to teh Vermont Service Center and it was received on September 28, 2010. I have not received an approval yet. i called two weeks ago and they were processing filers from September 11, 2010. I called today because I was expecting it to be complete and they told me they were still on September 11, 2010.

Here is the major crisis. My wedding is May 29th!!! Two months. My fiance is from the UK. Do you guys honestly think that it will make it in time??

I am overwhelmed and do not know what to do. It is a month over normal processing times for Vermont. WE have spent close to $25,000 for our wedding. Will it be done on time or should I just prepare myself for canceling the wedding?!

I am not sure how long the interview wait is for UK, but someone in the regional forum can answer that for you. I think it is time to get a senator or congressman involved. In my experience, you can not count on the service center to be accurate. Just because they gave you the date of 9/11 last time you called doesn't mean that they will finish all of the files for each filing day in one day. In addition, they seem to do a lot of random order processing meaning that people who filed later are often processed before people that filed ahead of them. It just depends on the adjudicator and who has your file and how quickly he or she works. Usually, it is advisable to not make concrete plans until you have a visa in hand. The case can be delayed at any stage of the process and the timelines don't mean a lot. That being said, I can understand your anxiety at having made the plans and paid a lot of money. If you are able to get help from your local government, it will be because the case is outside of normal processing times and not for other reasons. I have seen a lot of people successfully get approved by involving their local leaders. My advice would be to find out how long the NOA2 to interview process is generally taking for the UK, contact your congressman/senator to see if they can help, and go from there. If it appears that you will not be able to make the May wedding date, try to see if some of the places will work with you to at least hold your deposit until you can choose a later date. Maybe with your situation some of them will be more willing to look at refunds or at least apply your deposits to a future date. I know how it is...we had to change our wedding date to much later than we had planned, but at least we had flexible people to work with us. This is a very frustrating process where you can't count on much as far as timing. I hope that everything works out for you, and if VSC is really working on mid-September filers, maybe your NOA2 will be in the mail soon. Good luck to you! Are you signed up for email notification? That way you can find our right away when you are approved.

Well time to get "creative". Cancel the "official" part of the wedding that is the legal part with the state, and talk to the preacher and see if they would agree to a "committment ceremony" which is not a legal wedding and buy your fiance a round trip ticket back to UK for after the ceremony/reception. Spin the wheel with CBP and see if they will let her enter the country on VWP. She would have to leave and go wait for the K1 to be finished.

Your guests will probably not recognize the difference and when she finally gets the K1 and returns you two can quietly go to Justice of the Peace and make it "official".

Or you can have her come here on VWP as planned get married officially and then she would have to go back and wait for the CR1 petition which would add another 9-10 months to the process.

Unfortunately as you are coming to realize its all a ####### shoot . But depends on what everyone who is coming from out of town has already put money down on , and how it will effect your guests. No easy solution, and I would not count on your Senator or Congressman/woman to come to the rescue, they appear sometimes to help but I suspect its often just coincidence that applications that would normally have been processed "seem" to be approved when someone inquires on them which is typically the 5-6-7 month mark anyway.

Best of luck

It is cutting it close . It is a ''touch and go situation ''. If I were you --I would go to plan B --make alternative arrangements .there are NO guarantee that you will get yr visa in that timeframe .

Just a word of caution --DO NoT plan anything you have your Visa  .I wish you luck . I have the same timeline and i am planning on getting married in JULY

I'm sorry but I really don't think the visa will be granted in time for your wedding... When I was going through the K-1 stuff last year, we got our NOA2 at the end of March and my interview (in London) didn't happen until August 10th - I even sent the packet 3 stuff straight back so there was no delay on my part. It ended up being about 10 weeks from the time I sent the packet 3 forms in to having my interview. It just took quite a while for everything to fall into place from our NOA2 date, to the NVC receiving our approved petition, to the embassy in London receiving it, to eventually getting an interview date...

I wish I could tell you otherwise but it's completely unrealistic to think the visa will be issued in time for an end of May wedding when your petition isn't approved yet.

Good luck with everything and I hope you can rearrange your wedding without too much financial loss.

The First Rule of the Visa Journey

1. Thou shall not set a wedding date before the visa arrives

Another First Rule: 1. Thou shalt not buy nonchangeable or nonrefundable airplane tickets to the U.S. until the visa is in hand.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I am sorry but there is almost no chance you are going to make that date for an official wedding. Even without the current VSC delays, you'd have been cutting it close with 8 months between filing and wedding. I think your best option is to see if you can postpone with your vendors and if that is not possible, go for a blessing/ unofficial wedding (which I wouldn;t mention to the CO at interview unless they ask directly, could complicate things).

Sorry to hear about your situation!

While you are waiting for your petition I would get your fiancee to get her police certificate (http://www.acpo.police.uk/Home.aspx) and if possible get her medical at the Knightsbridge clinic in London (http://www.visamedicals.info/us.asp). I would also check out the documents and forms required for 'packet 3' so you can return this as soon as you are asked to. These are the things which took time to organise for me in the UK.

We received our visa 5 months after filing...but we got our NOA2 after 2 months.

I really hope you get your visa in time. Just make sure you guys are 'on the ball' and have everything ready before they need it.

Good luck!

; prepare yourself for not making it to your own wedding in time  ...

1. you have to wait a week or so til your Consulate receives your package from the US. :bonk:

2. when the Consulate/Embassy received your case, they will set up a date, costs couple of days for you to receive your interview date

3. I thought in the UK, normal processing time from NOA2 to Interview date is 6-8 weeks.

Total: prox. 8-10 weeks before heading to the US

If I were you, look fo alternatives, for just in case.. So you won't be stressed out for weeks and think: Can I make it, Can I make it, Can I make it?

Good luck!!
