Being a bigot doesn't necessarily make you a bad person, but you can't go around changing the definition of words just because you don't like the connotation.

No one's changing definitions, only pointing out root cause/effect.

Indeed. Bigotry is clearly only too human, but that doesn't make it something we should just accept as somehow manifest destiny.

Perhaps you should not accept it. It's not good for everyone to accept it. On the contrary though, it is good for society ultimately.

Nor should we broadly brush someone who opines that issuing the death penalty for blasphemous comments regarding Islam is sick and wrong as being a bigot.

However it appears that those who do precisely that believe it's effective as a deflection tactic. And one is left with the impression they do indeed support death penalties for blasphemy.

Who has done that? I think that issuing the death penalty for blasphemous comments about Islam is sick and wrong and I don't think I would be called a bigot. If you think that's why some people are being labeled as such, I don't really know what to say to you.

Certain individuals in this thread claim just that.

They are angered by another thread against Islam, and are dismmissive of evidence put forth that maybe their religion isn't what it's crakced up to be.

Of course all religions do this, but that's not the point.

And I commend you for saying so. Read back through this thread though and you will find yourself to be the first and only Muslim to say it. Personally I doubt most Muslims support or agree with either the law in general or its application in this specific case.

If I were to habitually post articles that dismissed any criticism of Islam and discussed only the positive aspects of Islam and highlighted individuals that exemplify its best traits, then you would correctly say that I was pro-Muslim or at least had a pro-Muslim bias. What then do you say about someone who habitually posts articles that discuss only individuals who portray Islam in the worst light possible?

Actually, I'm not Muslim, I'm more of the anti-religion type personally. I'm glad to read that you think most Muslims though would not be in support of this - I would agree.

I think the bigot label is thrown around because of the pretty clear anti-Muslim agenda that some posters here have, not for simply disagreeing with certain aspects of Islam as they are applied in other parts of the world.

Imagine this:

You don't know any Muslims personally. When you turn on the news/open the paper, all you see is Muslims committing atrocious acts against others. Then when you go out (excuse stereotypes) into public to buy gas at your local station, it's now owned by Muslims and they are anything but friendly when you make a purchase at their store. They aren't abrasive, just quiet, and the wives are shrouded in secrecy.

For a lot of people, this is a disturbing thing. This is a scary thing and makes them fear that of which they do not know. For many it's not so much bigotry as it is a fear of the unknown and perceived bigotry is just that, a fear of those people who are 'different.'

This is why I keep saying it's important to put the good stories out there too, to put stories of humanitarianism, etc. into the public eye. Without those and as long as the mainstream media dominated with stories like this, then perception will never change.

ITA and I've said before that I think a lot of the problem is that not enough people know "good Muslims". I may not be Muslim myself, but I know a lot of Muslims and they're all so far removed from these sorts of stories that people post here.

I'm not sure how to address the problem of the media - we all know that fear sells.

Are these the only two categories that you place news sources in? Do you really think that media bias does not exist?

While the events in the OP may be fact, do you not think that it says something about you that you seem to only post facts that support your agenda?

Is the article false ?

Please answer the question with either a: Yes or No.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

I have read the article over at least three times now, and I find no editorializing / opinionated writing in said article.

Why_ne, you post only hyperbolic articles because they suit your agenda. Of course you don't see any editorializing, yet, without it, you would have found the same circumstances to be a yawn.

We're on to you.
